Let the booing/aprooving/arguing commence.
Well Persepolis should've won best animated feature goddammit!
Otherwise, yeah, can't argue too much with those picks. Mostly because I haven't seen half of them.

No Country For Old Men deserved to sweep and from what I've heard Daniel Day was guaranteed the statue. Glad to see Bird taking it down with the ambitious and brilliant Ratatouille.
Seems fair enough, even down to the blurry CGIfest of Transformers losing to some kiddie fare and Taxi to the Dark Side winning best doco was a bit of a shock, supposedly pretty dark and hardcore antibush sentiment throughout. The Academy seems to have gotten a few things right this year.

While personally I would have picked different films and actors etc for certain awards (eg Johnny Depp for actor, 'Ratatouille' for screenplay and score and dammit it should have been nominated for best picture!) the extremely high quality of films nominated means I can't say that the actual winners didn't deserve their awards.
Looks like Marion Cotillard was the big upset this year.

Is this the first time Europe has ever swept all four acting gongs? Go us!

Save for No Country for Old Men, haven't seen the rest of the movies, but buzz around the campfire's that No Country did deserved the awards it got. Frankly, I'll dare agree with Best Supporting Actor with Bardem even if I haven't seen the material from the rest of the nominees. Yes, his acting was -that- good, in my opinion.
On a side note, I'm with henke. I really liked Ratatouille, but despite having yet not seen Persepolis (but read the complete graphic novel), I'm daring to bet again that it probably deserved the animation award.
Oh well...
Can't wait to see the other top dogs :) (i.e. Juno, Michael Clayton, There Will Be Blood, etc...).
Had an Oscars' Special program on my radio show this saturday, and 2 (of a crew of 3) of us were rooting for No Country, yay! :D

A typically pale selection of nominees. The academy once again shows how entrenched they are in the
ivory tower.

Of course, with three of the five nominees being anti-war... The only one of those documentaries I'd want to see is
War/Dance.
And
Persepolis not winning continues to show that in Hollywood, animation is just for children.
Ratatoulle wins only because it was the most Disney-like; and it wouldn't have stood a chance if a real Disney film had been entered.
I hope the indie theater here in town runs all the short films like they did last year. I couldn't care less about any of the features.

I was kinda disappointed at the nominees for the animated, (and some other things), were there just not that many good animated films this year. (Ratatouille was good, but teh other nominees were meh)

Golden Compass winning for effects was a giant load of bullshit. Otherwise I didn't have a lot to complain about. Saddened that Deakins split his vote by being too damn brilliant a DP for two of the best movies of last year, thus giving his Oscar to Elswit, and 'Bourne' coming out and sweeping the sound and editing awards screwed me out of the Oscar pool.
<3 Jon Stewart for bringing Irglova back out to say her thanks after she was viciously cut off before she could say a word. Otherwise the show was pretty meh.

I unfortunately haven't seen many of the movies up for the big awards (although I still fully intend to do so), so I can't comment on those; save this:

Yes.

I saw only two of the Best Picture nominees, but I thought Juno was more enjoyable than No Country.
And I've never heard of the lady who won Best Actress, but she had to be pretty amazing to beat Ellen Page in Juno.
Personally, I would have liked to see Ratatouille held up against the rest of the films, not just in its own animated category. Oh well.
