Orion Prime : old-school game inspired by System Shock. - by Jobby

Hi all,
For a few years we've been working on an old-school game that has now been released in English, Spanish and French. It was developed for an 8-bit computer called Amstrad CPC, very famous in Europe (you know C64 or Spectrum ? It's a bit the same). It's an adventure game, point&click (open door, take gun...) for which all the rooms were designed with ShockEd, then transfered to the CPC resolution (192*176*16 colors), and reworked on the hardware.
The pitch is very inspired from SS1 and SS2, which are the best game I ever played :
After an engine failure during a hyper-space travel, your ship appears in an asteroid field. You manage to escape in a shuttle, and drift in space for a few days before picking up a signal from a huge scientific vessel : the Orion Prime. No answer is coming from it, like it were lifeless... But being your only chance of survival, you decide to dock to it, and explore it. You will quickly discovered that the entire crew has been slained... And soon what killed it will chase you too. You must find a way to repair your ship, refuel it, and get the hell out of the Orion Prime.
You won't find Shodan or anything specific to System Shock (edit : except some mini-games !), but the I tried to recreate the atmosphere of the game, though I added a lot of dark humor to it through the texts.
You can see a youtube video of the (

You can get the game here, and see some screenshots (

You'll need an Amstrad CPC emulator to play it. This one is great and simple to use : (

Enjoy !
Julien.

Very cool!
Great intro that builds up a lot of tension.
Then when you are in the game the overall design looks so familiar, also does the hacking system.
I'm off to play on^^

This is very cool game! :D :thumb:
I have been stuck few hours now in this game, so can somebody help me little? How I can get the lift to work? Or to get access to various other places?
OS is Windows 2008 R2 Server x64 and I'm using WinApe 2.0 Alpha 17 to play.

You need to put a recharged cell in the compartment behind the plant next to the lift door. The most difficult part is finding
the cell (it's inside
a "hidden" compartment on the console's corner, right at the first "room").
Well, at least that's what I think. I had a crash at this point (not the game's fault, it was my computer) and lost all my progress. Anyone knows how to save the game using the WinApe emulator? I've tried using the in-game menu (accessed through the 's' key) but it says I have to unprotect the disk first, and I don't know how to do that.
Edit: Nevermind, I had unchecked the "read only" flag of the .dsk file, but it has to be "inserted" again in the emulator's drive for the change to take effect; the save function is working now.
By the way, it's a great game. I'm not sure I want to know what kind of monter is on the loose if Prof.
Tsutomu, from the
Nihei Sation, is involved in its creation.

Thanks a lot for the feedback !

Oooh, you're the first one who catch this, well done :). I'm a big fan of "Blame!".

I wanted to try this out as I had a CPC464 and have fond memories of that era. However, if I start the game up in WinAPE then when I try to open the PDA or leave the room it asks me to insert side 1 (or side 3 if I've started from the 3" disks) and refuses to progress.
Has anyone else seen this issue?

Did you use Orion_Prime_EN_3p5.dsk ?
Al_B on 10/7/2010 at 11:28
Yes, although I did try it with the 3" versions as well. I'm pretty sure I'm launching it correctly (trying to "cat" the disk is amusing but seems to confirm this) so I'm a little baffled.

Don't worry, there's a trick to make it work : press F12, and select the "General" tab. Here you must uncheck the "Fast disc emulation". It should work fine then.
