StD the lovely jibe was at all British not at you. The marriage thing - I hardly thought it was a serious insult at you that you could take offence. The thighs/size comments were a joke at you, yes, but only because you were showing off so I guess it's tall poppy syndrome. ;)

Don't make it sound so easy and wonderful.

Those women that have no roots in the nation their buyer resides have few options. They are not just aiming to be financially secure, but they also want to recieve a citizenship and establish themselves somewhere where they can live better lives. However, there is no real guarantee, and abuses are made. Once they arrive into the hands of their buyer, they are pretty much bound in that they cannot really get far if they find out that they have made a mistake. It's an awful system. Although, there have been quite a few instances where the woman played along with the buyer's fantasies long enough to make off with a sizable portion of his money.

Looking on the less extreme side, marrying for financial security is foolish, but may be the only viable option for a person in a dire situation. The risks involved are similar to those that may be present in any relationship, but the factor of abuse may be magnified.

Overall, the whole thing is shady.

I personally think the whole thing very is sad apart from being "Shady".
In the Philippines it goes on a lot. It is a shame these Women have to do this. As it can go badly wrong. Like the Documentary the other evening
"Mail order brides".
They just want security,but for some it does not happen.

British Men are good and bad like anywhere else in the World.
Mostly the Women are not treated as their slaves. I would never let a man tell me what to do anyway.

My uncle told me once that one of the best incentives to marriage was the tax breaks. It doesn't makes sense that, in a long term relationship (not that buy-a-bride creepness), you don't take advantage of the system; it gives you tax breaks and clears up the legalese surrounding the shit that can come to you. It's even more advantageous if you have kids; more tax breaks and makes sure your kid(s) don't go waltzing around the country in foster families if one (or both) of the parent(s) die. Of course, that's speaking purely about the legal marriage, which is mostly a contract. If you want/need a more emotionally involved, marry in the church/synagogue/mosque of your choice.

Her conclusion : If British boys in big cities spot a pretty girl, they naturally consider them as Eastern European. WHY OH WHY???

I've had British online female buddy (a writer) who was dating a guy from Slovakia for some time. It is uncertain who dumped who and why, but it really doesn't matter.

Yes, Eastern European girls are among the most beautiful ones in the world. That's a hard fact. Considerable percentage of supermodels come from Russia, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Poland, Belarus and other post-USSR republics.

One really stupid myth is that all these models were once really poor. That's a total bullshit. Every Eastern European country has various social classes just like any western country. The fact is that if a model wants to mean something in the modelling business, she must face considerable expenses for travelling and make good contacts. That's much more easier from girls who come from upper middle class and upper social backround than for a random "Cinderella from village". There are rather rare exceptions, of course, like topmodel (http://www.czechmodels.cz/model.phtml?lang=1&m_sec=4&mid=202&i_sec=4&off=0&g_off=0&img=8072) Andrea Veresova (again Made by Slovak Republic), who was growing up in quite poor conditions, but thanks to her appearance and diligence, she managed to reach modelling heights.

Now, if you would take the number of EE-WE, and more specifically EE-UK relationships and compare them with number of women and girls in general Eastern European population, you would realize that not really too many girls from go "seek eternal happiness" by side of western men.
Many of them travel abroad for experience and fun, and most of them are returning gladly back to their sweet homelands, date good home-grown boys and eventually marry them. Perhaps they don't like the idea of spending the rest of their livese in British rainy weather. Or don't like short British men, cold like dog's nose. Or I don't know, whatever.

So StD, don't be so jealous that Eastern Euroepan guys get all the beautiful luck and go hunting some EE chicks somewhere in your neighborhood. If you have something that would make you interesting in their eyes, that is...

And BTW, tell your British fellows who regularly visit my city for drinking, GIRLSGIRLSGIRLS, demolishing cultural landmarks and more drinking and GIRLSGIRLSGIRLS, to go BACK HOME!

I once read a pretty simple and applicable summary about motivations in personal relationships. To make a long story short: if your motivation for a relationship is livelihood the correct denomination would be prostitution, when your motivation is livelihood combined with love it´s called wedlock and if your motivation is "just" love, it´s called an affair.

So if there´s love involved, a relationship with a mail order bride can be a wedlock.

Still those arranged marriages are somehow dingy.
