I've decided to adopt Opera as my back up browser, as grown sick of IE7 constantly terminating without any warning.
Are there any ad block addons and filter lists that are as powerful as the Firefox equivalents (preferably ones that don't require an individual to install some bloody external runtimes) - ie Adblock Plus and Filterset.G?
Thanks in advance.

The browser itself has ad blocking built-in. If you enable Javascript and Flash only on sites that you approve of, that'll take out half of internet ads. The other half, you can wipe out by right clicking on a page, and selecting "block content," then ensuring that the URLs you are blocking only include the domain name, ie (
www.doubleclick.com/*)
After about a week, you'll likely have 99% of ads blocked. I haven't tried it, but since Opera appears to accept RegEx in the block content dialog, you might just be able to copy the entries from an AdBlock filterset.
If that's too much work, get Firefox with AdBlock, because this isn't the only thing Opera does differently/better, and getting used to other things might not be worth your time.

you might be able to find similar ones that are available for Firefox..check the websites of the authors for the ones above...

How about using Opera as your primary and IE7 as backup instead. Really it's worth the move.
I've been using Opera since 2003 and I never once looked back. Firefox may be open-source and all, and I know everyone will support and promote it, but in terms of usability it's still miles behind. Unfortunately FF supporters are extremely loud and Opera always ends up being ignored. It's really a shame.
I only use IE for the shrinking group of sites that are still not compatible. The few times I tried FF, I never liked it and found it clunky at best.

Thanks, fanboy's filter list does the job perfectly.

Please go troll elsewhere.
I have no intention of dropping Firefox as my primary browser. The beauty of it is the tonnes of user-made extensions, giving the browser virtually any functionality/feature imaginable.

I wasn't trolling. I wasn't even thinking about FF, I understood you were using IE7 as primary.
Geez, why do you FF fanguys get all defensive as soon as we mention Opera's a cooler browser in our opinion? Aren't we allowed to think that? Fuck, if anything, you're the troll here
