Komag already built a lot of the OMs in Darkmod.
What?! Where??

Komag rebuilt the rough outlines of a bunch of TDP missions for testing purposes. Most of it is actually in a single, continuous map. (

I don't think they were ever publicly released.

Man, this thread is depressing. One bit of bad news, after the other. :tsktsk:

Easiest solution for you dreams:
Download The Dark Mod
Install Dark Radiant
Do your own rebuild in the Doom 3 engine of a classic map :)
You have a strange definition of "easy".
As a side note, I've taken a personal crusade into the realm of converting assets to a more modern format. I don't think it's viable. While not easy, complete rebuild will likely be the cleanest option.

This seems to have died now, especially after NewDark came to life, but it's a great project and would be cool to see it completed someday regardless.

I've ran out of energy and time to pursue this project, unfortunately. Some time ago I've moved the source code to github ((
https://github.com/volca02/openDarkEngine)) and did some minor maintenance, but looking at the source code now I'd probably have to redo some portions of it differently. I also grew to regret my choice of using ogre3d as the rendering library, I'd choose a different, thinner graphic abstraction.
I still have thin hope that the original source code will get a release, but it's growing thin. It's a pity really, because a proper license is all it would take for people to jump on the code and revive it - probably much easier than a complete rewrite. It happened to a lot of projects in the past. There was some mention of an effort to do so by Stephen Kick (CEO of Night Dive) about 2 years ago. It was related to their plans to re-release SS2 with some major changes. Let's hope that will come to fruition.

afaik, the SS2 source code is going to be released together with SS2 EE.
