Hi Volca, just wanted to so say thanks very much for giving this a go. I hope you can make things work. Its really good to see people working on something like this.

There might be other things that would stop us from doing so (Unlikely, ScummVM for example is Mentoring this year).
I'm pretty sure all of those mentoring organisations fall into the category of "established and well-known Open-Source projects" rather than "a few guys working on a game engine". ScummVM may be game-related, but it is a much larger and more established project than OPDE.

Thanks! It will be years before we'll finish this, but I'm willing to sustain this.

You're right. It's too early for us to attend to such event. We'll have to work harder to get there :)

Your welcome Volca, I'll be keeping my eyes on this thread :)

Wow, looking at those screenshots... I just chanced upon this thread after forgetting about it for a year or two. Glad to see it going, and going strong. Volca, if you can state, what's the approximate percentage of work that's done for the engine?

Thanks!
It's hard to do an estimate, but I'd say we have about 5-10% of code written by now. So far, all the code is targetted at rendering and data storage (objects, metaproperties, property inheritance, value propagation), there is no interaction so far.
Versions 0.3 - 0.4 should be much more interesting for anyone, as I hope to start implementing services that manage player interaction. I'd like to see some frobbing code implemented, a physics service, and a player management code as well (I'm not so sure what will be needed and possible, so this can change).

Any interesting progress in the past 2 months? :)

Ahh, yes. There was a lot of time lost on non-project things, but there are a few changes that should be mentioned:
* The scenemanager was rewritten, and now handles lightning as well
* The rendering strategy for static geometry changed, it seems finally it is possible to deliver comparable framerates to original Dark
* AI mesh support was added (this calls for a picture. I'll post one soon). Loads without problems, with only some minor glitches on normals of T2 meshes. Binding pose for now. We'll have to handle the motion db for advances here.
* Installer script was written. It checks for dependancies, allows you to locate your current installations of the dark based games, etc. Haplo did a good woork on this one :)
* Numerous other internal changes
I'm trying to finalize the property handling (usage revealed a few problems with the design, some are already adressed and fixed). Also, a final choice for GUI will probably have to be made. I'll try to post some updated screenshot soon.
