Seconded. I have nothing but respect to those who have given their lives to these wars, in spite of the media "No one wants this war" essentially making the soldiers feel they're dying for nothing. Whatever these anti-war protestors think they're doing, they're pissing on those soldiers' graves.
And for those families complaining "I blame George Bush/Tony Blair/Gordon Brown for my son/daughter's death", I think they should look at where their son or daugter is working. They're in the Army - it's not supposed to be a pleasant easy job without any risk. They enlisted knowing full well what they might come up against - and plenty UK soldiers at least join knowing full well they might be sent to Iraq.
What? Fuck off you sanctimonious arse. The armed forces aren't a football for people of differing viewpoints to kick around and try to claim ownership and posturise over. Given that the ladies and gentlemen of the armed forces are expected to risk their lives, health and peace of mind, one might argue that deploying them on disingenuous, half baked, political follies is something people really ought to speak against. Capisce? Good.

And why is it continually assumed that this is about a guy going to war and deciding he didn't like all the shooting, blood, pain, suffering, and death?
It's about not believing it's all for a just cause. It's about discovering the depth of the lies and realizing he didn't want to be an accomplice to Bush's agenda.
And that he doesn't know what to do about anymore than anyone else.

Well the simple answer is NOT SIGN UP TO AN ORGANISATION THAT REQUIRES YOU TO GO TO WAR TO KILL AND BE KILLED ON SOMEONE ELSES SAY SO
jtr7 on 11/11/2007 at 23:05
Now THAT gets to the heart of it.

I think that is very good advice.

Indeed; he idea of trying to equate "not wanting soldiers to die" with "approving of their mission" is nasty and manipulative.

Deleted for being too harsh.
FIXED.
The Taliban was an organisation attempting to take over the country through violence and who supported violence against the west. But thank you for letting us know exactly where you stand.
Edit: Although my deleted comment was harsh, I don't feel it entirely unjustified. Any "government" ruling through fear and intimidation who routinely shoots dissidents and even those who do not adhere to a strict dress code is not something I would call a government. It hadn't even taken the whole country yet. Anyone who lives in a country free to express it's ideas and yet supports those of repression to the point of death is perplexing.

Mwehuh? I thought *Zacch* was a Christian? Now I'm confused :(
-edit- ahoy down below :D
Oh come on, *Zacch* is hardly a mouthpiece for a fundamentalist Islamic political movement.
Tocky on 12/11/2007 at 00:10
I called him a mouthpiece. It's like calling someone a spokesperson.
Edit for above: Hence why I deleted it even before you posted. I suppose he just believes we should let a country go to rot even when fungi from that rot sends out spores that bring down buildings and the better half could possibly regain a certain ripeness. Well that was an unwieldy metaphor. Perhaps the next time we could suicide bomb our messages.

Indeed not. However, they
are the Government's football and the government kicked them to Afghanistan and Iraq.
On your later point...they're expected to risk their lives, yes, but why would deploying them on a 'disingenuous, half baked, policical folly' change that? Or why would it be neccesary to complain about that?
