Well, I think I went and did it. I decided my mage needed a little boost. So first I made intelligence potions like crazy. Then I bought and made every spell I thought I would ever need. Then I stole Galdebir's (sp?) winged twilight gem and made a summon golden saint amulet (didn't want to waste one of my grands on a dumb summoning amulet). Then I summoned and trapped like a madman, while making a concerted effort to find every bandit cave I could, to keep stocked up with grand soulgems. During this time, I also paid for 15 levels worth of training. Then I used those killer fortify intelligence potions to do a little enchanting. ;)
Result? Now I'm uber. Every item worn at this time, aside from the pauldrons (stoopid glass pauldrons...) has constant effect enchants, including restore fatigue (so spells don't fizzle after a long run) fortify intelligence, fortify willpower, and fortify light armor skill. The unstoppable spellcaster, hehe. Ooops!
On the plus side, I'm still roleplaying my ass off. No uber 'cast on use' items, save a few that I found and a particularly nice robe I enchanted. My mage draws on his magicka pool for everything, water walking, levitating, soultrapping, healing, and of course killing. I do have long blade skill for those emergencies, but it is still at 55 from disuse, even with training. I have grown tired of a few NPCs, and having a short temper, I had to frenzy them... but other than that, I'm behaving myself. I'm making a point of not using those potions unless I need to enchant something (which I expect will only be one more time.. when I finally find the sword I want). Those freaks give me a mana pool of 50,000 magicka when I use them. Truly overpowering...
Well, I'm still enjoying myself anyways. 3rd time through too. :)
Maybe I'll cap some screens and throw them up here in the next few days.. if I don't delete the char in a fit of guilt for 'abusing the system'. :p

That was really weird. I got to Magister in House Telvanni, and I was told to kill Gothren. So I did. EXPELLED. Nothing I clicked/said would change it.
So I loaded an old save and did it again, except before talking to Aryon, I trained my Restoration skill to 90 (a requirement for Archmagister). Voila! I'm Archmagister now. Silly.

man, i'm an expert thief but i've wanted to try being a mage cause i thought it looked cool. now i KNOW it is cool! could you like make a short guide on what you did to do all that stuff? man, that's too awesome

I'm guessing you are on xbox from your 'dead body' post, so the reward items are something you can't get (I made them with the editor). However, the deadric claymore has enough enchant points for an approximation of what I have, providing you can find the spells. Forget the cuirass, spell absorption is one of the most expensive enchants you can do, you can only fit spell absorption 2-3 points on an exquisite ring, lol. :p
As for the stronghold, I believe that it is at Wizard (or Master?) rank in House Telvanni that you get the opportunity to start your stronghold. At that point, you no longer need to do missions for them if you don't want to*. Then you go through the process of getting all the stuff that the builder wants (phase 1- construction contract, 2 storm atronach souls, phase 2- schematics, 5000 gold, and phase 3- dwemer book)
*If you want to become Archmagister of House Telvanni do not advance beyond 'Spellwright' before you get a Mouth, otherwise you will never become the leader. There is a bug that prevents a 'Master' from becoming Archmagister (which is fixed on the PC version btw.) :)

Aha, i got both pc and xbox, but xbox version was my friend's, and he took it back:mad: i liked the xbox because of the controller (i can move, jump, attack without moving my hand three places at once!), but now i think i'll start with pc now. maybe i'll find an xbox like controller for the pc while making my Mega Mage :p
