I'll be interested to see the general reaction when/if we land a man on Mars. I'm guessing it won't be anywhere near as big of a deal.
I did the "ignoring dickhead" bit a couple of times (Y2K, the big eclipse of 1999 iirc) but you can be assured if someone lands on Mars in my lifetime I'm going to stay in front of the TV and watch that shit live.
I kinda regret missing the eclipse now, come to think of it. The next total one near me will be in 2026. :erg:

This subject really deserved a better thread title. I understand that it was going with meme or whatever, but this was perhaps the greatest achievement in human history and should have gotten better than it did.
Not trying to be a dick, just sayin'.

This better, outdeis? ;-)

If When we land on Mars, I'll watch that too.
The other thing I'd take the day off for is the day we make unambiguous First Contact, even if by radio or satellite imaging or whatever. Hell, I'll even wear springy antennae balls for that.

If the First Contact will look like the War of the Worlds, then we all gonna have a day off and possibly looong vacation afterwards.

I was only 8 months old when this happened so my memories of the moon landing are a bit sketchy.

Apparently CIA has accidentally destroyed the original tapes of the moon-landing, which sounds extremely weird to me.
It's NASA that erased the original Apollo XI tapes in the 80s. They, apparently, were short on tape and erased a bunch of (possibly) mislabeled tapes. That's some kind of embarassing cock-up.

If you enter from the [expletive deleted] you can touch [expletive deleted].
You cannot touch [expletive deleted] though as it is entirely encased in [expletive deleted]. You cannot even lay on the floor and reach any exposed portion of [expletive deleted]. Yes I tried. I touched [expletive deleted] at [expletive deleted] and [expletive deleted] and [expletive deleted] at the [expletive deleted] in Dayton though. It is a compulsion.
Someone's gotta stop him. :erm:
