Been playing SoC lately and by gods, is the artifact hunting boring.
It can't even be called
hunting. You literally just walk and pick the glowing rocks visible from 100 meters away. And there are tons of them. TONS. Everywhere. It's kind of okay in Cordon, gets worse in Garbage - especially the garbage piles themselves - and absolutely out of control in Agroprom. There's like thirty artifacts in Agroprom area, not counting the underground.
And as much as I love CoP I can't argue that artifact hunting was one of its strong points. Anomaly fields marked on the map, and almost all of them have only two types of dangers - one "zone"(i.e. radiation) and one "point"(i.e. electro). Since you have to be a moron to actually step into an unmoving anomaly, this makes artifact diving quite literally banal. It's also easy to max out your protection in CoP(one tier 3 artifact = 100% protection from all types of that zone in the entire game).
But Clear Sky? Now that's a game where artifact hunting is a challenge.
And by challenge I mean KICK IN THE BALLS. It's basically just like CoP but there are three different anomalies per field, an usually two of them are zones. That makes diving hard since it's almost impossible to have protection from everything as the only protection is the artifact you're trying to get. So you're almost always on a timer.

God, artifact hunting was tedious in CS. It was always essential to save beforehand, because you'd almost certainly die several times before you got the artifact. That, to me, is too difficult. Mind, you they did probably go too far to making it easy in CoP, and while it does make sense that it's hard and very dangerous in CS, the player is going to do it anyway because he has the ability to load. I wouldn't say that artifact hunting was 'good' in CS. it was certainly better than SoC, and while CoP's isn't perfect, I'd say it was better than CS. What was a bigger problem in CoP was that the artifacts were worth so much money and you didn't really need many of them yourself, so it was very easy to get very rich.

The damn thing destroyed all the atmosphere for me, seriously. I've heard that kind of music a lot in RL, can't stand it. It's appropriate for local bandits however.
