What sort of camera do you get for a thousand bucks over there?
You can probably get something pretty servicable, but that is a conspicuously small amount for what is generally the most expensive piece of equipment in a fully decked out studio. Or rather it's lens is.
Not that you should be jumping in feet first from the get go (even though you kinda sorta are, but I think we can agree that 8 grand or so for just the camera starts to seem scary).
Besides, we want gear porn dammit. Not 'studio microphone', Audio technica BLAH212-XZT

Well as I said, I'm focusing mostly on commercials, which don't require anything special for a camera at all. I have mic's taken care of so as long as I get a good picture out of it, I'm set. Also, I'm really not planning on making any high quality or full length films. This isn't a fully decked studio, it's more of a 'This is the equipment I have, this is what I can do with it, pay me' studio.
I'll post more in a a bit.

Just remember that it is incredibly hard to keep a studio running, let alone make a profit. Anything that you can offer is already out there, 10 times better, so yeh as mentioned above you need to find some kind of niche market.
I tried running a small studio once, back in the days of 8 and 16 tracks machines, for the purpose of providing a cheap but quality avenue for budding songwriters/musicians to record demos. I paid no rent cos I set up my garage with soundproofing and everything, even had a small control room as well! Total profit made : $180 (that was over about 6 months)

Building a customer base is really something I'm not too worried about, I'm really good at selling what I do and getting the message across. I have plans for that too.
The thing is, I'll be doing mostly TV commercials, which is something I can charge HUGE money doing. I figure if I can sell 4-5 commercials a month and make $2000 - @2500/mo, i'll be covered for rent and bills.
As soon as my adobe software arrives, I will begin creating some samples of what I do. I will take some samples, pricing, and all information to some local businesses and give some free commercials or commercial time, just to get my name out there. While I'm waiting for feedback for the commercials, I'll be contacting businesses that I KNOW have crappy commercials, and telling them that they have crappy commercials, and tell them to buy commercial time from me or else they will go out of business.
It's all just outline. I have a pretty good idea of how most of it is gonna work, and the money won't be hard to generate. As of today, there is a band with a $500 budget that wants to make a music video, so I accepted. I don't mind giving away time in the beginning to get my name out there and build a larger work history and portfolio.
The name I've chosen to register is Digital 8 Multimedia, and Digital 8 Productions. Don't ask why, it just sounds new and it's not taken. I don't want to sit for a week just trying to think of a name, so I'm sticking with it.

Well, indeed. It will eventually dictate what you can shoot as well when and how, if you know what I mean, plus how much time you need to spend in post to make it look good and make broadcast specs (TV stations used to be really picky about this sort of thing. probably not so much these days). If and when you ever get sick of "Come to Joe's Discount Autos" type stuff it's something to keep in mind.
Anyway, you still haven't told me what it is yet :p

For sure! Everything I have or am getting, is just going to be enough so I can try things out. As soon as I'm profitable, I'll start upgrading all of my equipment. For now, I just want to make enough to know I'm not screwing myself.
