When we have the tools to make unlimited numbers of fan missions and they're all done for free, why would anyone buy the rights to do the same thing. I'm pretty sure the original developers don't want to bury themselves in a repeat of an older gake. Game publishers are looking for new fresh ideas instead of making sequels unless it's of a majorly successful game like
Tomb Raider.100% agree with you.
Being heavily involved in the Tomb Raider community as an unofficial voice actor myself however, we actually have our own line of fan missions available that run off the old Core Design TR engine(which is close to having 3000 missions released, at time of writing). And thanks to some incredibly talented programmers within said community, the engine itself has seen many upgrades over the years that offer many new capabilities and features for builders to utilize in their games(in much the same fashion as the Dark Engine through NewDark).
So at least for those of us who just so happen to hate the newer, more derivative Tomb Raider games, we always have an alternative to satisfy our fix. The main site that hosts them all is called trle.net, if any of you are curious;)
@OP, you're either completely out of your mind or don't understand how business works, if you think us fans could even gather enough money to get a well-renowned IP like Thief, from a corporate billion-dollar giant like Square-Enix. And again, what's the point when we already have talented, creative individuals on here who can already accomplish so much, with what we already have via NewDark for free? You could have essentially the most realistic-looking visuals around and it would mean absolutely nothing, if it doesn't have an appealing art style and unique identity that draws you to it. Likewise with gameplay, storytelling, atmosphere etc(which a lot of AAA-caliber games, including that failure of a Thief reboot significantly lack nowadays.)
Also, no. Better to pretend the Thief reboot never happened and just continue to think the series officially ended with Deadly Shadows still, as the former is nothing but a dumbed-down, soulless abomination with poorly-written, swear-filled dribble that has no right to be associated with the original trilogy. That is all.

Why even bother? The Thief remake, despite being a well-done game by modern standards was harshly criticized by series fans. Trying to make a "true" Thief sequel (no true Scotsman, here we go!) is just an exercise in futility. The Thief brand is a toxic asset. I can only hope that SS3 doesn't receive the same treatment.

It's pretty hard to take any thread beginning with "OMG !" seriously.
I agree. One of the things I find most irritating these days is that space before the punctuation mark.

I've know people who, when writing, put a space before every punctuation mark, and it drives me batty.

I just noticed you twice mentioned SE selling the rights to Thief
back to TTLG.... TTLG has never owned the right to the franchise, so that makes no sense.
I think he meant Looking Glass Studios which is way gone anyhow.

You haven´t seen the people who write every new word in big letters :D

Oh, I certainly HAVE. We used to have a VERY ANNOING guy here named cheater1 who LOVED to capitalize IMPORTANT WORDS to make his POINT.
There are a couple of hilarious cheater1 threads here, I'll post links to them later when I'm at home.
