Old fan of Thief 2 FM. New to Dark Mod. - by Wenex

Hey everyone.
On the beginning I wanted to notice that I have been having fun with Thief 2 FMs like 3-4 years ago. While at times some of them were really confusing and I were lost I, remember those times as well spent, can't deny that. But at the same moment my patience burnt out and I was forced to leave :P It's pretty possible I just choosed some poorly made or really difficulty fan mission for my kind of experience with the game. But nonethelss I had a long break from Thief 2 FM as I didn't felt need of coming back to this series.
Since recently though, I noticed there's this "mod" called "The Dark Mod" which is basically what Thief series overall done right and what it lacked off. Am I right? I watched some of the gameplays and I got really intrigued by it. I am just in a process of downloading the files and the thing is... I don't want to have the same experience with it as I did with Thief 2 fan missions. It wasn't bad, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't as perfect as I imagined it. So here comes my question.
Is there any viable list of good TDM fan missions? Like some good recommendations for average players? Or overall a place/forum where people share their experience with this mod and the FM they liked or created? I'm really looking into sinking my teeths into this awesome community and I would love my experience to be as best as it can be.
If there are also some kind of "tips" for a new time players, I wouldn't mind reading them either. While I love Thief, I can't lie that sometimes I can be a really big noob when it comes to the progression. My biggest mistake was probably never using rope arrows which I am sure got me lost a couple of times.
So I think that's all. I would appreciate any answers.
Cheers.

If you're after a list of recommended FM's I would go with the following for a new comer to TDM
First i'd recommend completing the training mission and afterwards The Tears of St. Lucia, both come bundled with TDM.
After that take your pick of some of the classics such as:
- No Honor Among Thieves
- Business as Usual
- The Talbot series
- William steele series
- Thomas Porter series
- Requiem and House of Locked Secrets
There is an official campaign sort of in the works with the prologue released called Crucible of Omens: Behind closed doors which received rave reviews from most people.
You will also find some little gems here and there as well like Lockdown, One Step Too Far, Volta and the Stone (which is a very polished and recently released mission), Quinn Co. and if you're after something with a very Thief Gold sort of vibe to it I would recommend Full Moon Fever.
There are probably many others I am missing but these are the ones that come to mind :)
Either way, welcome to the community, I hope you have fun!

Thank you for the reply! I have finished some of the tutorials and I have managed to complete most of the objectives in "The Tears of ST. Lucia". I have discovered every cornern, but I still can't find the ornate box with the relic. I have did all other objectives but this relic lol. I have read the Father journals and it mentions this ornate box near the statue. I have no idea where it is. Any hint maybe?
Thanks for the suggestions! You can be sure I will check them out! My first impressions so far have been good. I like how the game mechanics go into play. The movement, climbing and picking locks. It's awesome! Can't wait to play more FMs, but right now I am stuck lol.
Cheers! :)

Wenex: The relic is in one of the rooms close to where you emerged from the privy. Look for a secret switch near a bookcase. If you can't get in, the priest has the key on his belt.
Some TDM missions I would recommend are:
No Honor Among Thieves: three-mission campaign with rather good production values.
The William Steele series: three missions so far; all with a good balance of story, visuals and gameplay.
Requiem and House of Locked Secrets: these are massive, a bit non-standard, and very well done if a little difficult.
Full Moon Fever: classical "mansion with a secret" mission, with a dark atmosphere.
Volta and the Stone: a reinvention of Thief 2 visuals and style in TDM.
If you are looking for a full campaign that has a beginning and an end, The Thomas Porter series is a good bet.
...and for the crazy odd choice:
Swing

Hey thanks for answer. I have tried The Honor Among Thieves and I can say it's not my kind of FM. Too much fighting with monsters made my quit early. What I prefer is a lot of climbing, lore and stealing valuable things. Or FMs with detailed maps is what I also like.
But I did finished Requiem! Really cool FM. I was stuck at the end puzzle for a while, but I got it by myself after some time!
I will check out other FMs you mentioned. Thanks!
Cheers.

I have created account 3 days ago on the Dark Mod forums and it still hasn't been activated by the owner. I was waiting patiently, but now I doubt it ever will be at this rate

Wenex: I asked one of the admins to take a look. There was a massive spambot attack a while ago, and admin approval was added to the reg process... hopefully temporarily.

Thank you for your help!
By the way, are you the one behind Talbot series? I just finished it entirely today. Really cool missions. I liked the detailed mini map in each one of them. Made exploration really enjoyable.
Cheers.
