Turns out the karate thingie is the week before, so unless there's some massive crisis I have to ssave the world from, the 26th should work just fine. \o/

hehee, what did I find :D
I thought you all old taffers would be gone, but no...it was just me.
What a timing, I haven't read this forum for years and now when I do you are arranging a meeting in Finland.
So how's it going people?

Day after I'm one year older again -- I'll be expecting cake!
Yes, I shall do my best to be there. For me Helsinki would probably work better than Turku, but I could manage both.

Both Helsinki and Turku are absolutely fine by me. I'm also flexible for what comes to the date, so pretty much anything you decide will be cool.

Eep, April is next month! So how about you Turku people, would you be willing to host a tour & dinner for TTLG'ers? Helsinki is good, too, of course, but I thought the Turku castle might be a nice and appropriate place to visit, since most of us are Thiefers :) Not to mention your viking-style restaurant Harald!
mol on 4/3/2008 at 19:41
Absolutely seconded! Sounds like a plan - a visit to Turku Castle, then dinner at Harald's. And beers at Koulu later?
I'll book my hotel as soon as the date's set.

Harald would be a very good choice :) It's a little "touristy" but of course that's the whole point and the food is good (I mean the icecream-made-of-tar kind of touristy, not the mickey-mouse ears kind). It's a little pricey, expect about 30-40€ per person with wine and dessert and so on. They have set menus for two (which are good), maybe they can do a deal for a large booking.
So! I'd be keen for Turku, but unfortunately our place is too small to entertain guests or have anyone stay over - and Morte's I imagine is likewise. So it would kinda have to be hotels for the visitors. Of course to make a weekend of it, we could think about heading on to Helsinki the following day and take in some of the sights there too - depends how people's planeflights work out I suppose.

Well, looks like I won't be going to Helsinki on the 25th after all, so both places work for me. :) What do those think who are arriving from far-away exotic lands - Dave, Omega?
Here's some links to the places that have been talked about, for prices and such:
(
http://www.ravintolaharald.fi/gb/) Harald
(
http://www.turku.fi/public/?contentid=9900&nodeid=4537) Turku castle
(
http://www.panimoravintolakoulu.fi/english/maineng.htm) Koulu (It looks awfully posh on the site - the pub is really a nice, relaxed place.)
As far as a set menu from Harald is concerned, when Vig and I went for that shield menu they have I could barely walk home afterwards. So a full 3-course meal might be a bit much if we want to do something else afterwards. :p
There are all sorts of ferry rides and small cruises to Ruissalo and the archipelago in the summer, if people feel like looking at the sights during the day. I don't know if they run as early as April though, I'll have to check that.I checked and they don't run until May-June. So, scratch that.

Hmm, I wonder if this meet dries up (internationally speaking) like the last one :erg: Oh well, us Finns will have splendid time again anyway, OK? Just don't let me drink as much as last time ;) :eww:
Turku sounds fabulous, but I think we should start booking hotels soon, so what if we made the date & location decision right about now.. ish?
mol on 14/3/2008 at 14:25
Yeah, for internationals, I'd say that the time window has pretty much closed up - plane tickets on this short notice will cost an arm and a leg and one more bit that can be freely selected.
But we'll make a Finnmeet out of it, and Turku still sounds great.
