Remove any "read-only" attributes from the files in your UW folders (I can't remember what file it is that UW needs to write to, but you can safely change all of them to "archive"). Are you running this from your Hard Drive?

Yes i'm running this from my hard drive.
You see I recently switched over to Windows XP..
To my Surprise it was loaded with a TON of sound card drivers!
This allowed Ultima Underworlds setup to finally detect my sound!
But now this D001 error has come about.. I can turn Read Only off for all the files but..
For some reason I can't turn it off for the Folders. I think it's because of XP..
Though i'm totally clueless as to why this would happen..
Anyway any ideas would be very welcome, Oh and do you mean to say I should make the files Archive?

The folders don't need to be changed, as far as I know. If you change all the files from read-only TO archive, this should fix the problem (not a guarantee ).

In future, if you happen to install the games at a later date, don't do a drag and drop when copying to your hard drive. Type in the following at a command prompt:
xcopy Z:\uw C:\uw /e/s
Replace the Z with whatever letter your CD drive is and C with whatever drive you want to install it the game to. However, everthing should work fine for you now.

First off.. That Archive thing doesn't help one bit.
Secondly.. I already know that twisty, I always copy my UW that way.
However I just noticed EVERY folder says Read Only, Even the ones on the CD! @_@
I'm pretty sure that's just what XP views the folders as, I don't think that's the problem..
Oh well, All the files are fine.. So it should be working.. But it's not.. I'm clueless again.

XP does not view every folder as Read Only.
