Ok seriously for RPG players.. - by Renegen

Now I could be way off base here, but I seem to remember that before Oblivion came out, the majority of people posting about Morrowind's artistic direction hated it.
If so, it didn't take long for that to change!
I have played Morrowind a fair bit in the past, and will be picking up Oblivion soon ... it's the only new game I will get for a while, so I'm hoping I will like it. :)
EDIT: BTW, I'm guessing I won't be a huge fan of the automatic difficulty correction in Oblivion. Is there a mod which does a good job of removing this without changing a million other things into the bargain?

Just use OOO's mod, I think that removes the automatic scaling enemies. It does add a whole lot of stuff but it's hardly noticeable and makes the game for the better. It has a lot of downloads to back it up.

I really enjoyed the scenery and atmosphere of Morrowind and I think that helped me put up with the slow travel system. I just got Oblivion so I don't know how it will compare but I have to agree that Morrowind felt really immersive. Yeah the combat was click-click style but I liked the atmosphere of running around this huge world doing my own thing.
Actually the reason I stopped was simply because of one quest in which I was told to get this item off the thieves guild leader and that the warrior guild leader would take the guilt of anything I did to get it. So I killed the thief creature, took the stuff, killed a guard and went back then the fighters guild woman was shunning me. YOU LIED TO ME!

I would skip playing Morrowind for now and get a hold of Daggerfall, take that for a spin.
But Morrowind vs. Oblivion:
I perfer Oblivion, but ONLY if you take a little time and get all the mods that fix the GUI, game balance, etc. I have 40+ seperate mods installed and each one fixes, tweaks, or improves the gameplay experience somehow. Alot of the fan made stuff is equal or better quality than the official stuff and breathes a bunch of new life into the game.
Oh, and no more freakin Cliff Racers pecking at your head every 30 seconds! :grr:
But seriously, Daggerfall.

Im on the Morrowind side, the game is simply more challenging.
Oblivion may be more catching to people today, on the short run. The first go is good fun in Oblivion, with a fun combat system, lovely graphics, and seemingly thinking AI. But when you play it more, things start to get boring. The guilds are too few (i mean, no imperial legion guild IN CYRODIIL??!) and too short. The fast-travel system and compas seems like a good, refreshing, time-saving idea, but on the long it just gets dull, flat, and ten-year-old-friendly. And so on...
Morrowind, on the other hand is not that catching in the first place (a few things are, anyway) but on the long, it is much more fun. There are more than twice as many guilds, which is twice as long. The characters involved in Morrowind are much more diffrient and fun to play with (I dont recall meeting an insane person in Oblivion, exept at the Shaegorath Shrine). I dont understand all the people whimpering about Morrowinds traveling system. I think its fantastic. I mean, the Silters and the boats (and the Guild Guides) are fantastic ways to add fast-travel, without having to have Oblivions empty, annoying map-click system. I think its a very fun and realistic idea to be hung up in a small town, in desperate need of money to continue on ones pilgrimage/journey/whatever, and the feeling of coming back to a city after a long, long walk in the (*Pulls out paper map*) Molag Amur region or something, is one that cannot be found in any onther game (as far as i know).
Im sure there's a hundred of other reasons, but i've just mentioned the most important to me here

I wish someone can remake Morrowind using Oblivion's game engine ... spare me the voice overs, lotsa text dialogues offering lotsa background info will do very nicely.
RyushiBlade on 23/12/2006 at 02:54
I'm a man ahead of my time. I, too, prefer lots of text. I'm a huge fan of text-based games--I don't even NEED graphics in my games!
Gorgonseye on 23/12/2006 at 03:02
Doesn't that make you a man behind your time in a world where if the graphics aren't good, the game is trash?
Ailtar on 23/12/2006 at 11:13
 Don't say that. Some of the old, bad graphiced games are classics. Especially those by Blizzard. Think of Diablo, or Warcraft.
