Ok question.... - by Pointdexter43

Today I went to reinstall Thief Gold. I had a few issues, and used the help from the "frequently asked questions" thread. I got it installed, then had an issue with the "indeo video playback" problem, and got that fixed as well.
At that point I had the "Direct 3D Device does not accurately report texture memory usage" problem, and downloaded the Thief: Gold Direct3D Texture Error Fix patch. I unzipped it, and from what I understood I needed to overwrite the installed Thief EXE with the one from the ZIP file. So I renamed it "THIEF" and replaced the one in there with the new one.
But now the game just crashes when I launch it. Or rather when I launch the mission. The game launches, plays the videos, then I select my equitment. Then I hit "play mission" and the game crashes. No message or anything. Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't seem to fiqure it out. Any help would be appretiated. :D
Sorry if I have this posted in the wrong place. I didn't see a tech help forum for Thief. I also have gotten as far as I can seem to go with the instructions in the frequently asked questions topic. :p

Start over with the patch and DON'T rename it. I hope you made a back-up of the THIEF.EXE, or can reinstall it from a disc.

Should I leave THIEF.exe there?

Go back to the THIEF.EXE you had before the patch, extract the patch into the folder, and run it as is without renaming anything. When it asks to overwrite your files or not, say yes.

Remove the famous semicolon ( ; ) from the line ;safe_texture_manager in the file user.cfg , and all should work fine, with the original exe file.

Ok how exactly do I install the THIEF.exe file off of the cd? And massimilianogoi, I thought that only worked with Thief 2?
EDIT: So I don't know exactly what is wrong at this point. I copied over the THIEF.exe file over from CD1, replacing the new file I put into the Thief folder. Then I extracted the patch into the Thief folder as well. When I launch the game now, it is still giving me the "Direct 3D Device does not accurately report texture memory usage" message. And if I try to (not sure if I am or not suppose to) the icon that the patch shows titled "thieffixedg" the game crashes straight out when it trys to launch.
Wondering if maybe it would be a good idea to uninstall everything and just start over? I also checked the user.cgf file mass, and the line ;safe_texture_manager isn't even there.
