Thief 3 shocked me enough when i realized there was no swimmable water.
Since i wasn't able to find any kind of info about it in the thief4 forum or wherever, can someone simply answer to this important question.
there will be water in thief 4 ?
if yes, it will be swimmable ?
edit now: amazing not even 1 reply yet, i guess nobody knows it.. or may be it's just well-known and i am the only one left who doesn't... :/
TBH I haven't been on the boards since T:DS days. I remember the lack of water to swim in was quite the controversy.

It might be somewhat fun if the underwater stuff is used sparsely
I agree, basically just like it was used in The Dark Project.

I think all of us would love to go for a splash again in Thief.

I was hoping the canals of TMA would make it into TDS, but we had the one little one in Auldale, and of course, I kept hoping we'd see The River someday. We now have The River in T4, yay! I really hope for a return of large and numerous canals and aqueducts, like in the first two games. I don't want forced underwater swimming unless it's rewarding in a non-loot way, and yeah, sparse. Wells, wishing wells, water tanks (not enough water tanks in the games like the cutscenes always showed!), springs, pools, bathtubs, sinks, toilets, ponds... A return of TDP/Gold's water-wheels for generating power. Fountains with water, unlike TDS, where not even a puddle of water was added to make sense of the spawning water crystals. We'll have rain and some degree of snow, if that wasn't just a concept art concept, so I expect the water to flow and collect somewhere. I hope we have water in some sewers, and seen in drains, but no more swimming through pipes or drains through holes int he ground without a damned good reason. :p Waterfalls, irrigation, drainage ditches, all back, please!

I remember when, while running away from guards, I jumped into the water in Thief 3 for the first time, only to die in a second. That probably won't happen in Thief IV, but who knows ;) .
And if it is swimmable, I hope they don't throw a ton of piranhas into the water, like Arkane did in Dishonored :p . It's cool that we got to swim in that game, but it just wasn't that much fun most of the time.

Totally with you on this one... exactly what I desire too. Fingers crossed.

Pretty much agree with this. In general I have nothing against water (I like swimming in RL :p) in Thief, there can be a lot of canals and swimmable areas in it and that's fine with me...
as long as the water is not always the perfect escape route and the guards don't turn into total idiots as soon as you jump into the water.

Haha. It would be a challenge if at least some of them jumped in and swam after you. :cheeky:

First we had toxic water in Viki's area of The Maw, then we had "Death Water" (as the devs labeled it in T3Ed) in TDS, which was just a 2D skin of water texture and nothing below it but a killing zone, heh heh.

Wouldn't that make escapes brilliant? A bunch of shuffling guards falling into the water, a few swimming towards you while taffin' archers plod off some sewing needles in your direction. Now that would be cool. The effort sounds absolutely tremendous, though. On those grounds alone I don't think we'll be seeing anything like that unscripted.
