Nah, I still need to do the safety override. What level is that on? Isn't that a long and complicated process over several levels? I've just got Levels R, 1, 2, & 3 so far, and I can't find out how to get more.

The safety override is on R too. There should be logs explaining how to get to it, along with giving a (pretty useless) map to its location, but you'll find it in short order. It's beyond a fairly "significant" location.
Once you've got the mining laser out of the way, you will be able to access levels 4, 5 and 6 and continue with the next phase of the game.

Tingler, are you confusing the laser safety override with the override for a completely different system that comes from destroying nodes?
The Tingler on 1/9/2006 at 19:31
No, I haven't found it at all yet. I'll have another look, but it's definitely on Level R, and I DON'T need the Radiation Suit to get to it?

That's right. If you stray into an area with high rads, get out quick and use a detox patch, you don't need to be there yet. However the override is *near* an area with high rads.

You'll always get high rad contamination when going for the safety override, although it's only for a short moment, if you take the shortest, easiest way. Unless you decide to get there via the hardest way, which means going through SHODAN's death trap.

related, somewhere on engineering late in the game is the lvl 3 radsuit (there's plenty of lvl1+2 laying around.) unless you've got really good eyes (or tend to leave no stone unturned like i do) you'll likely miss it- it's buried under some trash just after a nasty little gauntlet of massive radiation and some robots shooting at you through slits in the walls. it's a big help when you go back to the reactor.
