Only because drinking yourself to death doesn't get counted as suicide.

Well, if you take Scotland out the equation... :D

What about walls topped with metal spikes - can criminals sue for injuries sustained when climbing over?
I think this is something to do with the law not permitting setting a trap for trespassers. So spiky fence isn't a trap but rather a deterrent, as the risk is obvious. But then I'm not sure how wire mesh constitues a trap?
Also, I think we should remember that just becuase the criminals sue, doesn't mean their case will be successful. Although, I'd be pissed of just about having to go to court in the first place.

There's nothing incongruent about that. Simply because a recession is on in full force does not stop one from taking part in the joy of cupcakes.
My point was more that both extremes seem out of character. You expect the Germans to be hyper-angst-ridden and the Japanese to be hyper-Hello-Kitty-cupcake-genki. The UK character is supposed to be middle of the road, always chipper but not crazy happy.
But TBH I don't give much credence to "national traits" anyway. I mean there's trends to a point, but they don't totally define people unless they're either 80 years old and from some small village, or doing it self-consciously, and even then it's ironic more times than not. Just thought I'd point it out for giggles anyway.

While its not true on a national level, sometimes it is true on the state level. I've known Jerseyans who were totally defined by the stereotype.
