im gonna need some help editing, ill post ann Qs on this thread if i remmber to
first, when the morrowind.com tutorials say to "snap" them togther, how do u know when they are snaped?

Did you turn the Grid Snap feature on? In the CS, click the button next to Save (it looks like a blue-sleeved hand holding a piece of paper.) Check the box next to 'Use Grid.' I'd go ahead and keep it at 64 as this seems to work fine for me. You should use Angle Snap as well ocassionally. These two features may seem extremely useful, and they are, but you'll find yourself periodically turning them on and off as you do different things in the editor. I wish they'd just made these a button instead of putting them in their own menu.

uummm...yah.....fuckit, im jsut gonna delete the con. set

Are you sure? It's a very useful thing to have, and pretty easy. Once you have grid snap on, making things is a snap (no pun intended.)

no im not sure, but i cant rotate the camra for a *3d* view to make sure what im doing is what i THINK im doing, placing the static junk dosent makes walls or a roof over my cave so i cant see it, i cant "snap" anything because i clickgridsnap and nothing happens and everything keeps putting itself on diff "floors" if you will, what i need is a friggen stradgey(sp) guide...
jeez that was a lotta typing:erg:

Yeah, the different 'floors' is a problem. You get it usually when you paste an object and then drag another object. To rotate the camera, hold down shift and move the mouse. This let's you look from side to side. If you highlight an object (by clicking it) and hold shift, then move the mouse, you pan around the object. To zoom, spin the mouse wheel. Using all these together let you go through the walls to look at what you're doing.
And 'stradegy'? Typical American. They just don't pronounce their T's ;)

I'm just now getting around to trying out the editor and my god it's more intuitive than DromEd. For me anyway. I'm not even very good, but at least I can see what's needed each new step.:)
That grid snap is straight from my days working with that CADD program from high school and college. I'll have to reaquaint myself with the different settings since it's just not working right for me.
I'll get it, though.
The first project of mine is to build a set of high walls around my Tel Uvirith stronghold. Love that thing, but hate the locale so it's time to add to it. I want an 8 Silt Strider garage and a Mage Guild Guide kiosk.:thumb: Yes, Santa didn't bring me anything good so... I already managed to get the shock centurion that I got from Baladas Demnevanni into the place (the hard way). I should be able to make the rest happen.

to ease the pain of different levels of floor when you drag something into the render window double click on it and change the z value to 0 then close by clicking on the red x in the upper right corner. I then immediately open the object again by double clicking on it and closing it again. That way it stays on the z value I put in. Sometimes if you do not do the second open and closing the item will shoot back to the original z value...
RyushiBlade on 5/1/2004 at 21:44
It's easier to let it pop back up to its original Z value then press Ctrl + Z. Then it stays ^.^
