That sounds like an attempt to ruin someone to me.
Or maybe it sounds like someone going,
OMFG! They want to put HIM in the SCOTUS?!

But if she was so sure he'd done it, then why only at the senate enquiry and not lay actual charges?
There are thousands of reasons, not all of them benign. Pick the one you like most.
Though keep in mind that, while Ford has no corroborating witnesses, people who knew Kavanaugh in high school and college keep coming out of the woodwork to say (
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/30/us/politics/chad-ludington-statement-brett-kavanaugh.html) he's lying.
That last paragraph in the statement above sums up my feelings on the issue almost completely.
Quote:
I do not believe that the heavy drinking or even loutish behavior of an 18- or even 21-year-old should condemn a person for the rest of his life. I would be a hypocrite to think so. However, I have direct and repeated knowledge about his drinking and his disposition while drunk. And I do believe that Brett's actions as a 53-year-old federal judge matter. If he lied about his past actions on national television, and more especially while speaking under oath in front of the United States Senate, I believe those lies should have consequences. It is truth that is at stake, and I believe that the ability to speak the truth, even when it does not reflect well upon oneself, is a paramount quality we seek in our nation's most powerful judges.
In digest, it's not really about what he did then, so much as him lying about it now.
Now is he lying about Ford? Fuck if I know. He could be telling the truth about not assaulting her on the night in question. But since we're now seeing he wasn't entirely truthful when answering questions about his earlier drinking habits while under oath, I can't say I'm exactly confident in the veracity of his statement as a whole.

One more thing tonight: All this talk about these objections being just partisan political posturing solely in regards to RvW... It wasn't so long ago that Democratic Senator Al Franken was pressured into resigning by these exact same Democratic Senators.
(Honestly RvW is a trap. Overturning that would be a sizable political gift to the left. I'm much more concerned about pro-wealth anti-worker anti-world anti-democracy rulings.)

Really, Roe v Wade isn't in much danger. It's settled law. We'll never see a case come before the Supreme Court that makes abortion suddenly illegal in the US. The most anyone can do to it is force it to become a states right issue.
Though really, it's been theorized that the only reason Trump picked him for SCOTUS was because of his views on executive privilege. Kavanaugh has stated that he believes presidents should be considered above any meddlesome investigations, with impeachment being the only option to disrupt their busy work schedule.
But even if Kavanaugh would be willing to stick his neck out, and protect Trump in court, there's only so much damage he could do. If Trump brought such a case before SCOTUS, even an otherwise friendly conservative court likely wouldn't swing in Kavanaugh's direction. They have to protect the reputation of the court, show it's above partisan bickering. Considering they've been perfectly kosher about allowing previous investigations into previous presidents, I very seriously doubt they'd go 5-4 for Trump's benefit, entirely contradicting their own set precedence.

It might just be my opinion but this chart might contradict some claims made here about (
https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2018/9/28/17914308/kavanaugh-ford-question-dodge-hearing-chart) Ford and Kavanaugh's relative levels of candor.
Quote:
Beyond the style of their testimonies, there was a striking difference in the content of their words. Both Ford and Kavanaugh fielded questions from senators and the prosecutor hired by Republicans, Rachel Mitchell.
But only Ford made an effort to answer every single question.
Kavanaugh actively dodged questions. He often repeated the same non-answer over and over. Other times, he insisted on answering a question with “context” — which inevitably was a long story about his childhood — but never actually answered the question.
We went through the transcript of the hearing and noted every single time a question was asked of Ford and Kavanaugh. (We didn't include the times a questioner didn't ask an explicit question.) Then we noted every instance in which answered the question or said they didn't know the answer — and we also noted every time they either refused to answer or gave an answer that didn't address the question.

Well now, the Dems have until Friday at the latest, in order to manufacture some more unsubstantiated allegations against Kavanaugh. They simply must try their best during the small window of opportunity this week. The problem though, is that this time they'll need more than smoke & mirrors to defeat him. This is because the FBI investigation results (which will produce nothing) will carry more psychological weight when matched against blind emotional belief, and thus nullify most of that energy...So unless they can produce something solid and real (which is highly unlikely), they won't be able to get another delay...and that means the vote for confirmation on the Senate floor could be as early as Saturday.
I have to say, it was a brilliant strategic move by Trump to order the one week FBI investigation...and after further consideration, it's possible that Flake wasn't manipulated by the Dems after all. More likely, this was Flake and Trump baiting the Dems into specifically asking for a one week investigation. You see, now that the Dems have asked for this, they are now trapped by time, whereas before, they were controlling time, via delay of process, and trying to control it all the way to November, in order to obstruct and achieve victory.
So not only are the Dems trapped, the Republicans will now be put into a positive light by accepting the Dems investigation request, which will make them look caring and just, and make Kavanaugh victimized and vindicated...all ready to ride the red wave to November.

This is an appalling shitshow, is what it is. Any candidate worth their salt to the highet court of the land would have dismissed themselves at the slightest assumption of impropriety because that's what an honorable person does.
To allow this circus to go on, and the constant demeaning and dismissal of assault victims, under the presidency of an unapologetic predator no less, is a stain on your history as a nation.
Shame on anyone supporting this despicable administration. This is not what politics are supposed to be.

Or discover new evidence and confirm existing evidence of Kavanaugh's impropriety and or criminality. Perjury is a crime, isn't it. SO is sexual assault, or has Trump normalised those too?
So Vae, are you just going to ignore the evidence I posted that Kavanaugh is the systematic liar? Or is that irrelevant in your narrative?
raph - abnormal is the new normal. Regrettably.
