I don't know about distant memory, since we're still talking about Hill/Thomas and Clinton/accusers. But I agree that Kavanaugh will be just fine either way. He's sitting in a lifetime appointment on the 2nd most powerful court in the United States. He can serve out his career there. If he decided to resign, he'd be welcomed back into Republican party politics where he came from. And if he didn't want to be a party guy, his D.C. Circuit, White House, and independent counsel experience could make him a highly valuable and very well paid asset for any big company with interests before the federal government.
