However, despite this obvious bonus to the world in general, your detention would still be morally unacceptable.
Have to disagree. There's a point beyond which blinding ignorance deserves punishment.

That's very questionable.

God, poor Convict takes the most severe beating in every thread he posts in. Not saying he doesnt deserve it, but damn.
I wouldnt be so irate about prisons if(at least in the US) it wernt for the fact that so many of the inmates are minor drug offenders, not hard criminals, not murderers. The kind of people that could be treated and released at far less cost to the taxpayer and the inmate.
Some people have no sympathy :/
Deep Qantas on 5/10/2006 at 00:09
Well, to be fair we're not talking about imprisoning criminals or anything like that.
Criminals as in people who break the law.
Renegen on 5/10/2006 at 04:38
Minor drugdealers probably have a better living inside a prison than outside.

On the list of stupid things you've said, that has to be at the very least top 3.

And people consistently forget that the same people locked up in these centers throw their children, their own children, off ships.

When did I say this? Are you strawmanning me deliberately?
You didn't say it, but I bet you believed it when wee Johnny did. Just like you now believe detention centres are somehow cushy resorts because Uncle Rupert says so.
Convict on 5/10/2006 at 07:35
Paz firstly I edited to update my post which was before your edit.
Secondly I thought the "human rights" violation you were referring to was unacceptable food and IMO now that food looks rather good. Also the staff are to get feedback on the food once a week. Obviously none of us can comment on the quality of the food, however given that staff will be eating with the detainees I assume the staff find it acceptable. Also merely because someone disagrees with you doesn't give you the right to resort to insults.

Zygoptera many people at the time thought that the war in Iraq was justified because Bush and Blair were stating that they had WMD's ready to nuke us all. What sources are considered acceptable? Perhaps the green-left news?

You could have done that at the start and saved Paz a lot of bother.

I put a comma there to show that in the article the staff will eat with the detainees once a week and therefore they must have found the food acceptable. Please don't misquote me in future.
