Oh my god. They've done it. This takes all rights away. - by Outlooker

A dangerously broad definition of "illegal enemy combatant" in the bill could subject legal residents of the United States, as well as foreign citizens living in their own countries, to summary arrest and indefinite detention with no hope of appeal. The president could give the power to apply this label to anyone he wanted.
I'm from germany. We had all this stuff before, and no, thank you, it wasn't fun.
Not only that they can legally take all rights from US citizens, they make the world know that they can kidnap citizens of foreign states anywhere, for secret reasons, and keep those humans for all time they want.
I'm from germany. We had all this shit before, and no, thank you, it wasn't fun.
I'm frightened.

I find it particularly sickening that they've decided they need to re-define rape. How disgusting is that? :eww: This bill is an abomination.

Could we all pass bills like that then so it's a level playing field? Perhaps Australia could kidnap Americans and keep them detained indefinitely without charge.
Your government wouldn't have a problem with that, would it? :erg:

As long as you send them to get beheaded in Singapore.
That'll be way cooler then Syrian torture.

Isn't this the type of thing that revolutions get started over? Holy shit.
Just a minute, there's someone knocking on my door.

Revolutions are good, because they always come when you want them. Just chill and convert your money into gold..

It sounds extremist, but this makes me seriously want to buy a gun. I've never had the desire to own one before, but holy fuck...

We have a similarly frightening bill due to go through Parliament this autumn, the (
http://www.saveparliament.org.uk/problem.html) Legislative and Regulatory Reform Bill.
These people are using perceived external threats to push through profoundly illiberal measures that are stripping away centuries of democratic reform overnight. And the worst thing is that they
might actually succeed.
And yes Outlooker, for once it isn't too extreme to say that this kind of legislation is derivative of Nazi Germany, because this is exactly what the Nazis did with the
Ermächtigungsgesetz in 1933 to obtain sweeping powers through democratic means.

I don't see it plastered all over the front pages of the news, sad. Free media of the world unite? How hard is it for the opposing parties to build some media attention.
