Mate I am british to the max
I didn't do math at highschool, just art, psychology and english
i3 = -i jesus
i * -1 = hello identity function plus the sign
i4 = 1

i^4 = 1
So how do you know this?
Para?noid on 12/11/2006 at 21:16
i read it in a book, my housemate was an engineer and i stole his maths textbook and went through every chapter last year. i don't actually have a mathematical brain or care about numbers i just appreciate the aesthetics of number
the search for beauty is found within all things

I've never been interested in mathematics ( I'm studying molecular biology ). But we had mathematics and physics exam, don't ask how I passed them :) Why do we have to study this? We should study things like biophysics or biochemistry...
Para?noid on 12/11/2006 at 21:44
Because maths is the fundemental, universal language which allows us to explain and understand all the things that we as humans have discovered
Biophysics and biochemistry is concered, like all systems, with rates of change, structure and space - all things that can be strictly defined in a mathematical sense

yes, that's right. But people studying medicine start directly with biophysics without studying maths at university ( I think we get all necessary math knowledge at high school ).

Can America interrogate prisoners in space without violating international treaties? Not like their held to the ICC anyway though.
We don't need the ICC for that, we can just haul them to our secret underground bases on the moon and mars-yeah I've been reading to many conspiracy sties lately;) :laff:

According to the most famous conspiracy theories americans have never landed on the moon.

Two reasons, I beleive why:
a) Mathematics is not a subjective art. It is actually very simple and requires feats of memory to apply rather than creative, instinctual and experiental knowledge. (This is of course a generalisation and not ultimately the truth since great mathematicians are creative geniuses but you know what I mean)
b) Biology is based on massive, open systems where individual case study can vary differently from subject to subject. Extremely complex things like the human body has an amazing subset of intensely complicated mathetmatical problems such as fluid dynamics or electrical networks ET CETERA, but strangely enough knowledge of these things would never supercede the values of experience and subjective judgement. Perhaps mathematics is important in an academic or research environment but if we're dealing medicine or doctoring in a real world sense, things are different
having said that i have no fucking clue what biophysics is about but if it's got physics in the name then i swear to christ it involves maths since anything but maths is loaded with connotations and semantics and can confuse if it isn't strictly defined
