I still don't get why they had to be removed, there was plenty of room for the Baron (reserved since game one), his Watch (yes, this one too) and the dissendents called Ravens. What irks me the most is how they got rid of the iconic hammer in any shape or form and replace it with some generetic church faction they don't even bother naming until now.
Why is EM able to acknowledge even the crappy Invisible War in Human Revolution but is absolutely unwilling to do the same for Thief? According to the recent (
http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/18/thief-producer-we-have-a-single-shot) joystiq interview they only have one chance to revive Thief so why are they closing their eyes before the strengths of the series and what made it so unique?
I've said it before, I'll say it again.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution succeeded, critically and financially, because despite all the 'reinvention' and 're-imagining'... it was, at its core, a game that was defined by what it kept intact.
Thief 4? Even for all twelve people that actually find this early footage appealing? It's a game that's defined by what's been removed. Which is an awful lot.

Hrmm, based on the flags I would have guessed that's the ravens, but who knows ... I guess we'll find out.

This is an excellent point and precisely why I'm disappointed in the direction they are going.

Well right now it's a game defined by trailers, reviews, and press releases, and that's one theme people have taken away from them. But we'll have to see how the game gets defined after it comes out. A lot could happen over however many levels it is.

Don't worry everyone, EM have kept the DNA. :p
One of the worst lines of marketing BS I've ever heard.

New religious faction? I honestly don't see why they bothered when they had a perfectly interesting, well established faction to work with in the first place. If the story goes the way of something like "new faction , backed by the Baron to help him consolidate power (or something) drives out Hammerites, one of the causes of strife in the City." Ok, I'll swing that if they do it well, maybe.
Someone in an earlier thread mentioned a great story idea in which the Hammerites are still around but exist only in small, hidden groups trying to claw their way back up to the top as they're supplanted by another faction, or something. To me that's a great way of going about it, if they insist on getting rid of the Hammers.
