The only time it ever happened to me was when I was under heavy emotional stress with no relief, which led to more stress to the point of permanent physiological damage at the age of 19.

After about 20 minutes of nap time your body starts producing hormones to induce deeper states of sleep. That's why, if you wake up after a long but not
long enough nap you feel like crap.
Really? There are actual sleep hormones? Maybe a homronal imbalance can disrupt a sleep pattern. That makes sense to me.
I was dragging my ass quite a bit due to lack of full night sleep..My soccer coach (he too is diabetic) told me that when the body and mind are under stress, the body actually produces adreneline which goes beyond the control of the mind. For a diabetic with sleep problems this means sugar stores in the body are converted to glucose. This is also the cause of energy starvation by the brain due the body's receptors for insulin to push glucose into the cell membranes which result in wildy rampant or flucuating blood sugar levels..because the brain tries to control its supply be secreting adreniline to try to balance the sugar supply to the brain..which is a major cause of insomnia..or it could even be an overactive thyroid. The solution is to go for a hypoglycemic diet or lots of sex.
On weekends I sleep in till about two pm if I'M EVER LEFT ALONE, and I feel great.

Ok, who suspected I'd reply to this? Show of hands.
scumble, your new sleep patterns may seem weird and strange for now. But, in about a month or so, they'll be even weirder. It'll hit you like a brick in the face. Deprivation will eventually take its toll. Chances are you'll no longer be able to keep up with the stuff you do, or the times you do them, and there's a certain risk you'll become stupid, sluggish and generally annoyed and annnoying. It'll all go haywire. This is a crucial time. It's how you cope with everything when this happens, that will tell how to deal with it. If you're smart and adaptive, you'll do just fine, if you can get some time to recover.

Agressively napping. :cheeky:

If I ever fall asleep at any point of the day other than late at night, weather I get an hour of sleep or four hours of sleep, I wake up feeling terrible. I wake up with what feels like a mild hangover. I hate naps.
Same for me. When I go to sleep during the day, then it takes quite long for me to become fully awake. I also need quite a long time to fall asleep anyway, so 15 minutes of napping is not really for me, because it takes me that long to get in into some kind of sleepmode, where I'm not even sleeping yet. So I need at least two hours to make sense of it, and then I need at least half an hour or more until I'm fit again.
Well, the sleep during the day, still helps, so it makes sense in some cases, but usually I try to avoid it.
