I absolutely cannot stand it when people start the 'hurrrr better problems to solve on Earth' line. No offence intended, but it really bugs me.
What is it that bugs you?

Probably the fact that it's the rallying cry of unimaginative retards incapable of recognizing that space travel is ridiculously awesome and worth every penny.

You tell me something about space exploration I don't know yet, tard.

Today happens to be my 15th birthday. But that's irrelevant.
What is relevant, however, is that today is the 50th anniversary of the launching of Sputnik. So here's to fifty years of spaceflight- we've come a long way.
What do you think things will be like on Oct. 4, 2057? Where will we be? Colonization of the Moon? First flight to Mars? Share your thoughts.
By the way, I do realize that there is already a thread for Sputnik. However, I'm asking more about the future of spaceflight.
The world has spiralled out of control and the biggest nations fight for the last drops of fossil fuels, since nobody could invent anything that could replace them. Nobody will even try for space.

NASA & Russia are both planning manned flights to Mars by 2020.
We'll probably all be dead by then.

The 'inventions' are there. They are just not economically/politically feasible (or are referred to as such by Big Oil) at the moment.
