This leads to all sorts of realistic interactivity that wouldn’t be possible on lesser hardware, or with more rigidly scripted AI behavior. For example, a hungry peasant may buy his meal, or lacking funds he might hunt for it in the forest. This could have consequences for your character if you cross paths. He might try to steal from you, or may flush out a wild animal while foraging in the brush that lands in your lap.

Oh.....my....gawd....
Glad I'm single, cuz this game would surely have lead me to a divorce.

Most people who played Morrowind never find him, because they don't like to read directions, they get confused and lost.
WTF? What are those people doing playing Morrowind anyway. Sheesh. "Don't like to read directions" This is an RPG, you are supposed to read stuff.
(And with RPG, I mean the
real kind of role-playing game, not the pseudo stuff like Diablo, which doesn't deserve the designation RPG.)
Why is that the game makers listen to those dolts? Trying to find the spymaster in Balmora was supposed to be difficult. I mean, I found it way too easy, but a spymaster should be kinda hard to find (not as hard as the moraq Tong guy but...)
I'm not quite sure I will like this compass feature, but I'll wait and see, when the game comes out.
I hope they stay true to what they started with Arena, Daggerfall and Morrowind.

I'm mainly excited about the overhaul in the stealth mechanics, since stealth in MW was pathetic IMO. Hopefully if they deliver everything as they promised, then stealth will more resemble that of Thief's. Working at night and sticking to the shadows.

That's what I was wondering, and I was also wondering where Bethesda learned that. Overall I'm not really worried about the compass, because within a week or two I guarantee theres going to be a mod that removes the pointer and maybe adds journal entries with the directions.

I don't see any problem with the compass at all. As they said, the NPCs will be moving around. They can't even say, "NPC-X can usually be found in his house" because what if the NPC suddenly decides to spend most of his time in the local bar? They can tell you where his house is, obviously, but then you'd end up waiting outside his house until he arrives. This could be fun.
So could gouging out your eyeballs.
Also remember that just because it's there, doesn't mean you have to look at it. From the sketch I saw, the compass is very discreet - nothing like what's found in GTA: San Adreas. It'll be easy to just ignore it altogether, like the minimap in Morrowind. On top of all that, they'll undoubtedly give you directions anyway. And when they don't, it's just like when they mark things on your map in Morrowind.
I have yet to come across a feature in Oblivion that I don't like.

I've no problem with the compass. Daggerfall's worked well. It's the lack of mounted combat and the possibility that the nine-divines are non-joinable that gets me, but oh well..I'm still hot enough for this game to have preordered an outrageously priced Xbox360 bundle just to play it.

Have any of you guys come across any system specs that are going to be required to play this monster?
I'll probably end up with a Xbox 360 eventually but, that version will NEVER beat the pc version due to all the absolutely killer mods, this modding community has.
I didn't have a very good system when Morrowind came out and, I had to play it on the Xbox. It was alright, only because I got the GOTY edition and played all the way through Bloodmoon and Tribunal, along with the main game.
What an experience!!!!
Now that I have a decent setup, 3ghz P4 (2mb cache and able to crunch 64 code), 1 gig 533mhz ddr2 memory, Nvidia 6800 Ultra w/256mb....there is no way I'm playing Oblivion on a damn console.
I want all the cool shit the mod community is going to make for this game since I missed ALL of it with the Xbox version of Morrowind.
So...again, have any of you guys read any system specs, that will be needed, to run this game? How about any ballpark guesses?
Looking at those screenies, I'll bet that, even with my system, I'll be turning down the graphics to get a smoooooooth framerate. :(
SubJeff on 17/9/2005 at 18:49
You could get Bloodmoon and Tribunal for XBox??
Yep, the specs for Oblivion look like they will be insane. Only because of the screenshots though. Wow.

From what has been speculated on the official forums, that sounds more then enough to play the game without any lag, but you'll probably have to put a few graphics settings on high, instead of everything at max. And based on the (
http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=152813) poll at the official forums Bethesda considers that a high end card.
