mothra, mod's reply (from your link):
Quote:
1. This is not official release.
2. This is private beta, which I saw on November. Old.
And 1.0006/1.0007 has nothing to do with 1.1

It is work by GSC. They have said in the past that it is going to be released as an official mod. It has been in closed beta testing for some time. I seems, the beta test is now an open one.
posted by DonReba, the only guy with REAL ties to GSC and the devs themselves. what other mods post does not matter. They posted the Alpha-demo as well and Don removed it.
1.0006/7 has to do with 1.1 as in IT COMES BEFORE IT.
apart from stupid nitpicking on the word "official" I wanted only to demonstrate that 1.1 is an open beta now, that all consecutive work on SOC (meaning 1.0006, 1.0007) is being halted until CS comes out and that 1.1 likely won't ever be released since GSC seems to have given 1.1 into the modders hands (like with the game and its remaining questbugs)

If it was official open beta it seems to me it would be announced on the site and link to it would be published on a site's page.
Also, how it may be beta if it's half finished at best, there aren't even text descriptions on the map - only some digital codes. It's more like Don Reba after discussing the leak with someone from GSC just let it be accessible, knowing that there is no way to stop its spreading after the leak and hoping to get some helpful responses for possible future work on it after CS. So to tell that 1.1 is out is not correct at all, IMO.

so it's forbidden on the russian forum to discuss 1.1 beta ?
and last time don asked GSC DID tell him to shut down everything regarding the e3 demo alpha leak. so there seems to be different degrees of unofficial or official :)
well, time will tell. but I have the strong feeling 1.1beta is the only thing we ever gonna see from the promised SOC freeplay by GSC.

No, I indeed mixed it up with leaked CS map. However, I'm still sure leaked "1.1 beta" as you call it is not a beta :) Don Reba just called it so to distinguish from finished version.

There is no 1.1 to download on the official site, therefore it's not official. Solved for me. :p

Well, I've been playing through more.
BRNumbers, three things:
1. You complain that the night is too dark. Well, if there's no moon on that night, and no stars... what do you expect?
2. I've never gotten to red for food because I slept for five hours. Eat some kielbasa before bedtime and you'll be A-OK.
3. Again, you complain that NPCs are hard to distinguish between from a distance. Seeing as they're mostly using modern camouflage, and modern suits to boot, doesn't that make sense? I can tell Military from Stalker through a scope from a good distance, and bandits are similarly easy to spot. But between, say, Duty and Freedom? They're both getting their equipment from the outside world, so it makes sense that it would be very similar.
I've experienced quite a few blowouts. Not exactly subtle :D
The most tense moment I had was when I just got to Wild Territory from Yantar, for a blowout to hit immediately. After a brief panic, I turned, ran straight back to Yantar, and dove into the mobile bunker before my arm fell off.

How long is it since you were alone at night in the woods? More importantly, how long is it since the modders have been? Do they know something about adaptation of human sight to darkness? While the vanilla game has too bright nights, other modders try to do the opposite extreme - pitch black, like if you are locked in a box. Far as I know nobody tried to create natural nocturnal ambient lighting which would gradually fade into pitch black from player's POV. And maybe it even isn't easily possible in the engine.

I also used to sleep for five hours. Poor stalkers though, have to live on sausages... On the other hand they may get a bullet sooner that they earn bowel cancer. :laff:

I wasn't impressed by quality of new model skins, neither redesigned inventory items. Deep purple jacket for bandit or something - oh man you look sexay!

I just got into the Sarcophagus area (right after where there is the scripted blowout). However, I'm taking a ton of psi or mental or something damage. I have double vision, blurriness, shaking, and I die rapidly. I have the fully calibrated psi-helmet. Is there something I'm missing?
