John what i asked is: are we allowed to use objects from games that are older than 10 years? Is it legal? I think it is.
Don't take me wrong john but if we´re going to stick only for modified Thief 2 objects then there isn't much new to see in the future.
Yes its true we have talented artists, but there's always a specific missing object that can be useful for any author.
There's nothing wrong in having a good variety of objects, unless you want authors to use as much possible your objects to justify the work you had creating them and to bring out your name to the credits list, or because the idea of having your name among so many other authrs in a huge name list will not stand you. sorry i´m not claiming all this, just supposing.
Honestly as a player before working on dromed when playing a mission i never cared reading the credits list...never, unless there would be an interesting music i would check the credits list but for the rest no, even now as author i don't read carefully the credits list of a mission, unless while playing the mission i spot something interesting i want to use. I´m sure there are many players out there who won't bother themselves to read carefully the credits list.
Like in the movie when it reach the credits i leave the cinema, or otherwise i shut the movie, most of the people are not going to spend 10 minutes watching a credit list rolling up with some crappy cheap songs.
so when you say "no" you might forget that there are authors that wanted these objects, and someone of them said they found the objects i hosted useful. you should think about only your interests, altruism is something one should practice.
because as far as i´m concerned i'm served, but i would like to share with other authors what i have. As i do like when you authors share some of your productions.

The only thing about older games is that the company that owns the property might be less likely to come after someone who is using or sharing it illegally. They still own the rights to them and it is still illegal to use them, no matter how old they are, unless the company has said otherwise - regardless of what you think.
As for the rest of your post, what I think you're basically saying is that since you don't care about credits, then others probably don't either and so that means you don't have to worry or care about the legality of using others' work or giving them credit. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Russ, read above i said i would only host objects credited.
john9818a on 15/5/2017 at 13:26
Cardia the first part of my post answers your question. Some people might find it useful to run stop signs but that doesn't mean we should allow it.
One of my points was... Let Thief be Thief and let Duke Nukem (or whatever game) be Duke Nukem.
There is no rule, policy or law anywhere that says after 10 years people can harvest resources from games and use them elsewhere. When people pay for games they are also paying the salaries of the artists who came up with content for whatever game they are working on, and I'm sure they would appreciate their hard work being pilfered and redistributed to places where people can obtain them for free.

Let us go back to what R Soul posted as the terms of use for the Object Repository site, rather than go down the rabbit hole of copyright law:
Object/AI uploads are welcome under the following conditions:
1) You have permission to upload them.
2) You say who made them.
If you have any trouble with those conditions, feel free to discuss it on TTLG or with any other Thief fan group.
So, if you can't say "Absolutely, yes!" as the answer to either one of those conditions, then don't upload the objects to the Object Repository. The Object Repository doesn't want any objects of questionable origins. Just don't do it.
Please note that for somebody else's work that you downloaded from some website, unless that website says you can upload the objects to other websites, you can't. The right to upload other people's work is always assumed to be withheld unless explicitly granted. Even if they give you the right to use the object for personal and non-commercial use, unless they say you can also upload, you can't.
Maybe it would be better if the Object Repository had a webpage for links to other object source sites. That way objects which are allowed to be downloaded for personal, non-commercial use on those sites, but not uploaded, can still be found through the Object Repository. Maybe a statement on the top of that page of links to remind folk to obey the rules of those sites when downloading.

To answer this last most directly, my suggestion is that if people want to use some of the objects that you have found, send them the links to the sites where they can legally download them. Ethical behavior is also something that one should practice. I believe that it is unethical to not obey the wishes of the artist who created the object. Just because someone else wants a copy of what you have downloaded doesn't mean that you have the right to give it to them directly.

Man... Don't bother uploading anything else than objects MADE FOR DROMED; it means objects made by members of TTLG/Darkfate/Arianne and/or used in FMs

Larry G , this i know: Object/AI uploads are welcome under the following conditions:
1) You have permission to upload them.
2) You say who made them.
But even still Rsoul seems to be waiting your opinions even if i am allowed by the author to host it anywhere, even if the object in question is properly credit, but even like this is still a problem for some people.
Squadarofl wants only objects design for dromed, but what he doesn´t know is that some objects that were made for dromed are modifications of other objects already made , i´m not going to make accusations here, and i´m not talking about those thief 2 objects modifications.
John wants objects only made by taffers of our communinty.
others will want only objects that fits into thief world.
others don't give a damn about any custom object because they don't use custom material in their missions, they'll stick for what dromed offers and it will continue for them like that for the next 30 years.
others don't want objects from games even if it is legal to use them.
Jesus Christ! so many issues just to use a pin or a nail.
i need to relax, i´m going to drink a french beer.

Pedro, if you're so frustrated, then maybe you should just walk away. This is supposed to be fun - it's not worth getting worked up over. Focus on your missions instead.
And please, this is an English forum, you know this. Speak the correct language.

The rules per the repository website are super concrete without any other interpretations;
1. You should have express permission, period.
2. You should credit original creator, who gave said permission.
Old games are a hot and current industry, automatic no for COMMERCIAL RESOURCES, unless the object artist, who holds rights to his own objects (super rare) says you can use it. This is not a matter of philosophy, opinion, or emotions. You are not the only one who feels this way, you aren't being singled out. We just have to follow law and respect the wishes of creators despite ourselves.
Let me know, I can make many objects, so can others, just ask; I can whip up a traffic cone in 3 minutes. I can make just about make any boxy object from Duke Nukem like games.

I am not talking about your personal use of objects from wherever you got them. That is your own business. I am talking about the rules for the Object Repository site. Just follow them as written. Post only what is allowed on that site. If you want to host your own site for objects, do whatever you want on that site, but if you post to the Object Repository, all I am asking is that you observe that site's rules. They are pretty simple and easy to understand.
