i'm of the opinion that the reason we have a two party system these days is b/c the average citizen doesn't know or understand enough about the issue and just block votes with their "group" as they previously had based on the same promises and hopes as last time. It's the perfect way for shitty people to stay in power. Populist pandering on both sides of the fence.

That's exactly right.
All of us (to one point or another) have been so satiated and occupied with nonsense for so long that we have taken our system for granted to the point that we've allowed it to become a parody of itself. We gladly swallow the swill we are given, taking it at face value even though we should know better.
For better or worse all of these steps backwards have begun to add up to the point that we now must stand and take notice or we will surely pass the point of no return.
Doom I say..doooooooooooooom!

There is no real comparison of Bush to McCain (except on policy issues)
k and there's no real point to eating (except to survive)
all the way, since none are better, libertarian for prez under my roof, and yeah, def need to sack the 2 party "well, I'm with stupid" bullshit
Aerothorn on 9/6/2008 at 00:38
Does Barr ACTUALLY think he can become president?
That said, I give the guy points for re-examining a lot of his positions in recent years and coming to the conclusion that they were bullshit. It takes a lot of guts to "flip-flop" these days (see: all the Republicans supporting the Iraq War to the bitter end).
From a personal standpoint, Obama gets on my nerves a lot - Clinton and Obama are both slimy, but Clinton never gave the whole "It's not just winning that matters it's WINNING RIGHT" line. I lost a LOT of respect for him after he lied out of his ass during the Ferraro affair (a lie the press was far too complacent to catch him on). Still, he's a hell of a lot better than Kerry!

As far as slime goes, Obama ain't perfect--the whole NAFTA mess leading up to Ohio wasn't pretty--but his campaign has been a pillar of purity when compared to the anything-that'll-stick bile tossed at him by the Clintons.
Obama was my choice from the beginning, but there was once a point in time where I actually had a fair amount of respect for the Clintons and thought Hillary was capable of leading.
Yeah, learned my lesson on that one.
Not sure what you mean about Obama lying regarding Ferraro's embarrassing rhetoric.
(

It helped illustrate for me, at least, the reasons behind the Hillary-or-we're-voting-McCain madness of late.
Aerothorn on 9/6/2008 at 01:46
Yeah, there was a lot of Obama-or-I'm-voting-McCain madness on my campus. People get so caught up in the personalities that they forget that Clinton and Obama had practically the same policies - policies that are pretty different from McCain's in many key areas. Just goes to show that a lot of people care more about who they are then what they'll actually DO once in office.
As far as the Ferraro thing, I actually wrote a paper on that for college. Basically, Ferraro says (in the larger context of sexism in the campaign) that Obama wouldn't be where he is in the primary if he was white. Obama calls these comments "patently absurd." Yet (ignoring the "absurdity" of him calling them absurd) Obama himself said the same thing as Ferraro in a Chicago Tribune article - an article POSTED ON HIS OWN WEBSITE at the time of the Ferraro affair (it still is!). People called Ferraro a racist - but then if Obama said the same thing, that makes him a racist?
My paper was much less on Obama than on the way the press bungled the story, though.

For all of you who are saying you are libertarians. I hope you have actually read and understand the party platform. In case you haven't:

Well have you read and understood it?

Is there anyone with the 'nads to try and bring in a proportional representation system? Is there a public that would back them?
