Saw this buried in the Voodoo Extreme comments:
Obama:
Change! I bring you change!
"What change Obama?"
Good change! I promise!
Mccain:
I bring you change! Stay the course!
Clinton:
I bring you change! ...you liked my husband, right? It'll be just like the good ol' days!

"America isn't ready for a black president." This boils down to- America won't elect a black president.
I was pessimistic at some point earlier this year, "Oh look a black candidate look how UNRACIST we are!" "This will never work, but it's cute that's he's trying, maybe another year!" But I'm starting to feel hopeful that people will realize what's at stake- that after growing up reading about the civil rights movement in history class and textbooks, we could finally be part of a new chapter.
I don't know if it happens for every generation - a general sentiment of spiraling deeper and deeper into shit, except for a few moments/events that may or may not vindicate, but that's certainly how it seems to me now.
I'm just hoping Obama doesn't trigger the inevitable robot apocalypse too soon:

The fact that he has gotten this far suggests this country has come a long way in the past 40-odd years, regardless of the eventual outcome.
Obviously Obama should not be elected simply on the basis of him being black, nor is his potential loss necessarily indicative of any significant amount of racism in regards to voting trends.
In the end it's going to come down to what percentage of Americans are attracted to his policy and whatever "changes" he may or may not have up his sleeve.
I found it interesting, and telling that more polled voters expressed concern against voting in a female than a minority.

I won't be as happy with his nomination if he takes Hillary as a running mate though. We've had enough self-righteous smugness from a V.P. in the last eight years to last us until we're speaking Chinese.

As a Libertarian I'm not happy with Obama nor Mccain, but if the Democrats manage a win and things go south it can only spell good things for the future of the Libertarian party. That's a sad and cynical way of looking at things but politics are a dirty business.
All things considered, Ron Paul did much better than many expected. Maybe when folks get tired of the Republicrats and Democans Paul (or another 3rd party candidate) will do even better, maybe even running within their actual affiliation. Imagine that...
The only thing I know for sure is if we want real change, we need to leave behind our two-party system.

Maybe you should vote a ferret into office.

Me alone? If I had that kind of power I'd just go for a Platypus. Worked well enough on Nationstates.

fett--I love the trademarked acronyms, just leave the phrase 'Tits and Cheese (tm)' alone--that's a trademark of Q-Corp, "where we strive to make tomorrow a worse day."
heretic--I'm of the mind that the two major parties are on the verge of complete and utter self-destruction, and welcome it! I'd love NOTHING more than to see that happen. But, I wonder sometimes if the Libertarian Party is a viable answer. I'm not quite certain, as too many members of the party are of the, "You best get off my porch," mentality: too willing to be too closed to others in order to preserve indiviual liberties--thus negating the idea of invidual liberty when one is unwilling to consider their neighbor. It can quickly become isolationism (welcome to Montana), and citizens sitting around under bare-bulbs writing angry letters to a government they don't believe in (because THAT government didn't stick up for their individual liberty to protest).
Strike my earlier statement, I would LOVE to see this: Libertarians protresting the Libertarian President for taking away civil liberties.
What I would like to see is the rise of new party based upon rationalism, and responsibility; two ablities that seem to be seriously lacking in America today, especially the notion of actually taking resposiblity for anything (it's like blaming China for cheap imports, or Wal-Mart for peddling that crap--and not the consumer for purchasing items that are junk, because they are inexpensive, creating a market for cheap Chinese imports). Instead, we fall short and except rhetoric for the basis of socitey--we buy into the machine, and don't question why the machine exists.
And while on this thought, whatever happened to Wine Coolers actually being made of wine?! Since when did they all become malt beverages? See, it proves my point. Everything is misrepresented. I want wine in my wine coolers, damnit!
...the bastards!
