So elkston is Carlton?
Naah. He's too preppy. I'm more like that computer expert guy from the first Die Hard. (...and later Walker's Texas Ranger's sidekick).

This really shouldn't be that hard to understand, really.
It's
not hard to understand and it
sounds great and I'm sure you'll get alot of people nodding approval towards your statements, vapid though they may be.
And I'm sure many "black and brown folks" from my area would agree with you ... if they could read what you wrote. I'll be sure to remind them that where they live is the best thing they have going for them because it's in
AMERICA, LAND OF THE FREE. ...and they are poor and uneducated because they didn't take the time to make something of themselves.

Wow, elkston is fucking telling it like it is.
Agreed on all counts sir. You're taking the time to type up the shit that I would if anyone actually frequented these forums anymore.
So, how many people do you require before expounding? Roomfuls?

Wrong tangent? I'm just disagreeing with whatever delusional definition of prosperity you subscribe to. And especially with you ascribing that prosperity on the majority of the black community, saying they've NEVER had it as good anywhere else as they do here and now.
Now, there is the argument to be made that the black community has the
potential to have it as good as they ever have had it, but as elkston pointed out, apathy and self doubt, combined with any number of social restrictions, have severely limited this potential. So there is a massive gap between the prosperity they could have and the reality of the situation.
And the reality of the situation is obviously what's eluding you.
You seem to have a chip on your shoulder that prevents you from hearing what either heretic or Elkston said. Aside from ancient Egypt heretic is correct at least as far as the west defines wealth. There is a massive gap between the prosperity I could have and the reality of my situation too but it is possible here to gain it if you are singleminded and ruthless enough to attain it. Those at the very top are cutthroat regardless of color. Just recall what Rockefeller and Carnegie did to thier own color.
If I believed ZOMG government conspiracy then I would go for cultural manipulation which promotes a lack of desire for education whether it were gansta or wrestlemania.
I am voting Obama. I like his policies. I like that he talks to people as if they can understand because damn it we can. Also it is well past time and I do hope he becomes a role model for black youth. I wish whites would take the right role models too.

That's a valid question deserving of a real answer.
There was a time when all my internet debates were waged on TTLG. Comm Chat contained a wealth of threads in which issues were discussed at length. There was a lot of crap, sure, but there were plenty of critical thinkers who were talented at cutting through the bullshit and discussing the core issues beneath. I'm talking the likes of Grundy, Jkeats, Agent Monkeysee, and RBJ, to name a few.
Thing is, the first three have dropped off planet TTLG and the fourth has now been AWOL for a month. Not that they were the gatekeepers of quality, but it is representative of a general shallowing of the level of hot topic discourse at TTLG.
I'm not saying that there still aren't valid exchanges of ideas in these threads, but I've generally found that tackling the sheer level of misguided ignorance in
some posts just simply isn't worth my time. That was never my strong suit, anyway, as Monkeysee used to bail me out frequently when the jungle got too thick for my claymore.
Besides, I've found better forums in which to engage in debating these specific topics, anyway, political forums for political junkies from all colors of the spectrum. As such, my attention is elsewhere.
But then what is my role here? As ridiculous and hamfisted as I may find heretic to be, it isn't particularly constructive for me to just engage in hit-and-run namecalling behavior. Stupid comments don't deserve any better, but the cumulative effect isn't really positive for the community in general.
I'll never leave TTLG entirely--at least as long as certain people remain--but I am rethinking my involvement with threads like these.
