Distilling everything I've heard about this from various sources today, Obama was awarded the prize because he's talking a good fight about peace, rather than because he's accomplished anything. On that same basis I also believe they owe a posthumous award to Neville Chamberlain for his absolutely inspiring diplomatic efforts with the Germans.

All I see on that list are Norwegians. Norwegian politicians, or maybe Norwegian ex-politicians. Europe != Norway. Norway has a population of 4.8 million. Europe has a population of 731 million people. I doubt European politicians like Merkel, Brown and Sarkozy have any say in assigning Nobel prizes.
The percentage of Norwegian people in Europe (0.66%) can be compared to New Mexico in the US (2 millions out of 305m). If a bunch of locals in Albuquerque hand out prizes, are you gonna say that "American politicians" call the shots in awarding those prizes ?
Norway isn't even part of the European Union.
