Speaking of commies, you all know where the mighty United States defeated the favored team from communist Russia at the fine winter sport of hockey with a team made up of amateurs and college players in the year 1980, right?
In the fucking US of A motherfuckers.
You beat us too you muthafucka.

Okay, so what conservative whackbags control these major media institutions other than Rupert Murdoch? Please, I'd like to know. I don't believe in the so-called "liberal media" that so many like to spew, but outside of Fox News I don't believe in a conservative-controlled media either.
Bill Kristol and the Weekly Standard? Almost every/any talk radio station not dedicated to sports? It's not that they control all of the media - follow along, I never said that, and your pisspoor reading skills are failing you again -- it's that the media that they do control are extreme, biased, irresponsible and intellectually dishonest.
Never mind the commentators that make up the public sphere of conservative discussion such as the Ann Coulters, Michelle Malkins and Frank Luntzes of the world, or the part that you conveniently ignored, that being the ACTUAL POLITICIANS PUSHING CONSERVATIVE POLICY who are ideologically extreme, such as Boehner, Cantor, or, christ, Michelle fucking whackjob Bachman.
There is no equivalency on this one.

Fair enough to question; but to downright decide the political future of a country by the media - thats just wrong. Are we that dependant on others that we cant make up our own minds and rely on the media, tv, and interwebz to tell us what to do in voting for our political overlords? This is why when the aliens finally enslave us all it will make everything so much easier!
all hail google.
Thats why the education system is so important: A population with no education, or one so poor that they have no significant understanding of politics or history, is very easy to manipulate with media propaganda.

Why are we talking about American news media like they're at all relevant to reality?

You'll note that I never said they controlled all the media. So instead of attacking
my reading skills, maybe you ought to check yours.

Seeing as a lot of people think the worlds going to end at the end of 2012, what chance would there be of a 2016 olympics, if there's no world there then, or the other chance is that due to global warming chicago will be under 100 ft of water by 2016.

I'm sure the water will be a comforting sensation to contrast the radiation

Oh, and the myriad of left-leaning news sources, such as The Huffington Post, DailyKos, MSNBC, etc and the ones that still have a reputation for balance (even though they've long since gone hard to the left in the last decade or so), like Time and Newsweek, are always completely intellectually honest and in search of the complete, unvarnished truth, no matter if it makes their side look bad or not, right?
Don't make me laugh.
I also love how people bitch to high heaven about Fox News, a cable channel which people purchase of their own free will, while not caring at all that as Americans we are forced to pay tax dollars for PBS, a channel which routinely broadcasts left-wing propaganda like Bill Moyer's Journal.

I'd be interested to hear what folks think constitutes this kind of bias. I'm curious.
Everyone thinks everything is biased these days, but it's kinda hard to get a handle on what that means. It should mean, given the spitting with which the word is usually produced, selective reporting and skewing of the facts to achieve a certain propaganda sort of result and so that no reliable information is contained therein.
Usually (on the Cons side of things) it ends up being "They did a story on some guy in jail having a hard time that dared suggest his guilt might be questionable and he might be a human being. Bias!" or "They talk as though Class is a real concept worth intellectual consideration. Bias!" and things of that sort. So the net result to me after seeing enough of that is that "Anything but a libertarian, individualist, free market, moral absolutist viewpoint is wrong and cannot be uttered", which isn't anything to do with bias. Well it is, but you know what I mean.
No doubt the "other team" have their own examples too. It would be interesting to hear people's grounds for the accusation, as it's something of a truism these days. (I mean no one disputes Fox news do they? They're wrong about everything. But everywhere else it's often more subtle, one way or another, and a lot harder to pin down than people think, I suspect).
