Think of how the media would have torn Obama a new one had he not gone for this. I feel for the guy; he can't win especially in the current climate. Actually no; I respect the hell outta him too.
Actually on the subject of the media - I was having an interesting conversation over lunch with a friend yesterday about how there is no such thing as Democracy anymore (amongst other reasons); but because its the media who decides everything and influences the stupid people of the Western World.
Case in point; this week the Sun in the UK "endorsing" the Conservatives so now all the dumbfucks who read that rag will go out and vote Tory because "their paper says so". Carry over to the Obama Administration where he's bombarded and continually assfucked by Fox, NBC, CNN etc (at least from what I see here) on what he does.
Fair enough to question; but to downright decide the political future of a country by the media - thats just wrong. Are we that dependant on others that we cant make up our own minds and rely on the media, tv, and interwebz to tell us what to do in voting for our political overlords? This is why when the aliens finally enslave us all it will make everything so much easier!
And with regards to the Olympics - does anyone else get the feeling Obama just did it for that reason - to appease the media and others when the dude is a fucking clever home-boy. He knew that if the US got the Olympics then they'd be even more screwed than that country already is?

No, not really, I get the feeling that he did it to try to help out Chicago. Can't really blame him, its where he's from and its where his friends (both political and otherwise) are from.
Really, the Whole Obama focus on this thing is a symptom of how egotistical Americans on both sides of the Obama issue are. It doesn't have anything to do with Obama, its that the Olympic Committee for whatever reason (I've got better things to do than read the whole proceedings) decided they didn't want to host the games in Chicago.
