Pity that they prefer 30 minute reports on obscure African tribal customs to covering world news.
Well, the long story format is precisely why I like it. If I wanted 30 sec. headline blurbs, I'd go somewhere else.

Actually, while I do like All Things Considered, I was thinking of On Point, which is the best news talk show I've yet heard.
I love that show. My local station produces it, and I'm glad to see Tom Ashbrook back hosting regularly.

hey heywood, totally missed your NPR question (at least what I was referring to)
I do like All Things Considered and Morning Edition until they start discussing what the latest tree frog in the jungle is doing or what urban cafe was just opened (which treads lightly into being some stuck up Steve Jobs lookalike). That is, the start of those shows is not bad. However, it is basically just news reporting which most conservative stations do as well at the top of an hour.
I'm thinking more about Fresh Air and Diane Rehm and the like (in that order). I get just about as nauseous as I do when I hear the AM side of my dial (which is 95% conservative talk radio). To be fair I guess, it is not so much the content of the NPR shows that is icky as much as it is the hosts. I just can't stand them... stuck up to me. YMMV.

.
Which is exactly what I'm complaining about, usually the most substantial news in the all things considered portion of their program is the 30 second blurbs.
However, lets not forget Car Talk, that show is one of the more entertaining things on radio.
