I have an older computer I have windows 2000 sp4 on, recently I decided to put T2 on it using the latest version of Tafferpatcher. Whenever I start the game however-it crashes immediately or shows a white screen. My card is a 512 meg Nvidia Geforce 8400 GS with 182.50 drivers. Is this fixable, or do I need to try the S3 onboard video that's on the motherboard?

Okay I tried reinstalling with an earlier version of tafferpatcher, then I turned off V-sync in the nvidia control panel settings-now it works but is too fast indoors?!:p

You should be able to use the built in video-via the motherboard. You only need an 32 meg card to run thief. Windows 2000 is close to xp in function. Thats a nice card you have btw, I am still using a 256mb Nvidia 6500. The first time I played thief was on a windows 98, no video card. It was in black and white, and just crawled. It took 3-4 minutes just to load a game then.:cheeky:

Tried using onboard video-still having problems, I'm going back to my XP machine-T2 works perfect on there!

Well, I
had planned to just stick to my XP machine-but earlier today I started hearing a nice buzzing noise from my XP tower's power supply-needless to say I've 'retired' it for now (until I can scrape up the cash from my limited budget to replace that thing). Now that I'm temporarily stuck on my 2000 machine-I've been trying all evening to come up with a solution and I think I've finally gotten it right! So I put the Nvidia card back in and...
-turn V-sync off in Nvidia settings'
-use older version of TafferPatcher (the 49 meg version)
-then go into the ddifix file and set 'UseSysMemOverlay=2'
(thanks to this thread for finding that trick! (

So far so good-the only difference is I jump to text fairly quick when I read a note-but I consider that a bonus!:cool:

http://www.straferight.com/photopost/data/500/medium/double-facepalm.jpgthe correct answer here would be-when installing the latest tafferpatcher,make sure to select ddfix1.5.5,and after the install is done,edit ddfix.ini and add (if not present):
Code:
FrameRateLimit=60
UseSysMemOverlay=2
this should apply as well:

Set "max frames to render ahead" to 0 (nvidia control panel).
That really ought to be added to the instructions in the sticky thread.
