This is the realm of fan fiction. Fine. Go write about it, you might produce something interesting.
Garrett in new Thief is not the descendant of Garrett from original Thief. We've been told as much - its an alternative universe and that's all.

It's a bastardisation is what it is.

Funny, there are so many things EM could have done to preserve Thief canon and character by making "NuGarrett" Garrett's bastard son to a whore instead of reinventing the original Garrett and ignoring existing lore.

Shoulda, coulda, woulda .....
But they didn't.

Its probably better that they didn't take the descendant route; I'm not sure any additional Assassins Creed similarities would be well received.

Perhaps, the only good thing is that the new Thief isn't modern Thief. At least those from ION storm had this silly idea, thankfully, it never came to fruition.

Which is why they included similarities to other games like Mirror's Edge, Dishonored, etc. A little variation never hurt.

It's an interesting conundrum, isn't it? Garrett and Corvo are so similar and although Garrett precedes Corvo in the public perception who are ignorant of Garrett it appears that he is a Corvo imitator, especially if he has "powers".
It's a bit sad really.
