Well, there were the fire elementals, the mages, the priests, the apparitions, the pagans, the magical traps, and potentially various pieces of Garrett's equipment depending on how you look at it. I'm probably forgetting some things too.
It's quite a bit when you add it up.

What I meant was most of those were outside of the city and not considered common in the world, and most commoners probably didn't know they existed.
By not in the city I mean the normal bits - sure Constantine's Mansion is in the city but it doesn't really count, nor does the LC since it's below it.

Ok, sure, most of that was not part of normal life in the city. But it was a considerable part of the game experience. When EM says they're toning down the magic, I imagine it's the game experience they're referring to.

* Garrett falls, blacks out, then wakes up a year later, in the back of a cart returning to The City. He doesn't remember what happened while he was blacked out. Part of the game involves unraveling the mystery of what happened to Garrett during the year he was missing.
Being drunk every day for a year from the regret of Erin's demise, a thief might not remember how much time passed or why in a cart.

magic and mysticism
Magic did not seem to create solid structures and their shadows in the thief games, so most of the time a thief was in nothing magical :p

No the devs clearly state the unconsciousness and lack of memory occur at the same time, if he drank his sorrows away he'd still remember getting up and doing that to begin with. Let alone it's a real stretch to think that you'd lose a whole year and not retain some bits.

You're taking this idea seriously and feel the need to actually refute it?
Ooooookaaaay then.

Upon seeing his post in the other thread I realised this wasn't serious, I had only just gotten up when I posted that.

The only remotely interesting thing in the newest Q&A was this bit, responding to a question about nods and reference to the original games:
Quote:
Nic: We've got a lot! I mean, already, if you look back at what we showed from the House of Blossoms, the whole den is set in the Keeper library from the classic games. If you look back behind the velvet curtains, you'll see the gothic library taken directly from the Keepers Library in the classic games. We actually built from the design of the original library map - the structure, the levels, the whole location - when you play through you'll even be able to find hidden, remaining parts of the Library in the basement. It's a major beat, that level is all about exploring that old location.
The map is almost exactly the same as the City from Deadly Shadows. It's very similar, except bigger and more detailed. We made a few minor changes - the biggest is that Dayport is on the other side of the river now - that's the only district that we've changed. But The Clocktower, the Cathedral, it's all there, the feeling is the same. There is a lot to see.
When I read the original article in Game Informer, I thought they just meant "a Keeper library" not "THE Keeper library" so that is kind of cool that they're reproducing it. Also, it's great that they're for the most part sticking to the original map, but we'll see how it actually translates in-game. I also like the mention of the map being "similar, except bigger."
Btw, what does "it's a major beat" mean?
SubJeff on 13/9/2013 at 15:00
I guess it means it's a big deal.
And we knew that this Keeper Library was THE Keeper Library, and even that the level was built based on the TDS map, ages ago. It's one of the things I said was pretty cool - that even if there are no Keepers in the game (and there really shouldn't be) there were really strong nods to them like this.

Where was this stated previously? I know there are pics of a Keeper statue, but I've never heard the devs actually mention it in an interview or anything.
