TriangleTooth didn't say Garrett was unconscious due to natural causes, that's pretty clear.
No it's not, at all. He says that he thinks "Thief's world is probably not nice to coma victims". Coma victims. So he's in a coma. That's not magical suspended animation, that's a coma. And the rest of it. Christ.

What's really scary is that after playing a few of the 'newer' video games I've discovered that the general dumbing-down thing seems to be the latest trend.
Nope, it has been going on for a while now, for at least 10 years or so. The trend has been towards more streamlined and simplified games that are supposed to appeal to everyone, so now even only a moderately difficult game like Dark Souls stands out. Used to be people tried to create worlds... now they settle for making theme park rides.

Ffs.
It's pretty clear some magic or something has kept him "asleep"for a year.
There is no way he'd just be unconscious. You can't be unconscious for a year. How do you eat?
People are really showing their stupidity here.
Put the blame where it belongs - EM hasn't exactly made everything clear on this. We're left to sit around and makes wild guesses as to what they actually mean.
SubJeff on 11/9/2013 at 15:17
Well that's partly true - they haven't clarified it - but does that mean we should stop using common sense? We don't know the details so speculation is a waste of time really.

To me, the whole plot just sounds weak anyway. Erin and Garrett are working the same job, but aren't aware of each other? Garrett stealing her grappling hook is some changing point in his life? A mysterious earthquake knocks him and Erin off a building? Garrett falling into some kind of coma for a whole year?
It just screams LAME. It borders on embarrassing. I can't believe they couldn't do a better job with the story than that, given the rich setting of the Thief universe. I think at least several dozen FM makers could do far better.
And it'll be even worse and more cliched when Erin "mysteriously" returns from the dead and turns out to be the main villain.
I hope there's some type of redeeming quality to this game, because the above plot doesn't exactly live up to the Thief tradition. Maybe the plots for T1/T2/TDS weren't exactly Pulitzer material, but they were at least interesting and mysterious. This just sounds dumb.
TriangleTooth on 11/9/2013 at 16:48
I said it was weird. Garrett being unconscious for a year MUST require magic because there's no way anyone in the Thief universe would look after him (A: they'd probably think him dead, B: they don't have the tech) were it a normal coma (which is the only normal explanation for being out for a year).
Also Erin and Garrett knew they were on the same job, apparently it was Basso's idea to get them to stop hating each other or something.
I forgot there was an earthquake involved though. Crazy theory 2: The earthquake is connected to the destruction of the lost city somehow (same cause). This is sadly certainly not the case as I doubt the LC even exists in rebootverse.

Show me where anyone said he's unconscious due to natural causes.
Maybe he ate a poisoned apple.

Maybe he just lost his memory and it came back after a year (a.k.a. 'woke up').

... or it could have been poisoned cheese.

Will you please stop rabbiting on about cheese!
