Given that elegance and nimbleness in our modern western (computer games?) world are rarely associated with the so-called strong sex, it's not completely "wrong" to see something feminine in the way Garrett acts. And – FFS! – he's made it clear that it refers to this aspect and not the lipstick and painted nails (remember that they got rid of those pretty fast?).

Jesus Christ!
What the hell is wrong with those people?
Do you see Garrett as some kind of a macho (anti-)hero then? I don't, so the description sounds about right to me. "Feminine" doesn't necessarily mean that Garrett has recently had a sex change operation and is now called Garretta.

I never saw Garrett as macho, but I never saw him as feminine, either.

@ Tomi
It's not that. In my mind, creating a compelling character doesn't neccesarily have anything to do with gender issue BS.

Exactly! However, that's how I understood the EM-representative's statement: He apparently sees Garrett as representing both of these things. Then again, maybe I'm just misunderstanding him...

Well, try to sneak with some sort of stable footwork or mantle on things silently without coming at least somehow close to ballet. It just wasn't shown this way in the previous games (although TDS allowed you to see it in 3rd person and the style of movement wasn't that bad I think). Heck, the IMHO best reconstructions of high medieval sword and buckler combat look like a fusion of ballet and powerful martial arts. If people tend to call that feminine today (and I strongly believe that every person has elements that are typically associated with the opposite sex, don't know what's so terrifying about it), personally I'd have no problem to be called feminine. And I got a moustache like (

Due to suspension of disbelief, Garrett didnt need to consider ballet like movements, because the game itself was freakin' awesome! If you want a ballet simulator, maybe EM should make that instead of a Thief title...

Nonsense, you just have to move slowly and carefully. And wear woollen clothing, cause wool is silent.
You don't see many hunters sneaking up on their prey like ballerinas. Unless they play the part in Swan Lake or something.

If your understanding of ballet is limited to "like ballerinas", then you might be right. But while "just moving slowly" might work, you are far less stable than when bending your knees and coming closer to something like fencing footwork (which was designed to provide stability). Once you've started to place your limbs deliberately and slowly, it has something of free dance.
EM might have come up with quite some awkward stuff in their re-invention, but displaying Garrett as a nimble character is the least of them IMHO. Can this discussion be moved to the other (unspeakable) NuGarrett thread?
