It's the greatest tragedy going on in the world today.

I am fairly confident that everyone in this forum has a body of knowledge they use from time to time where they haven't spent the time and effort to understand the history behind what they know.

A bit? It's quite depressing if you ask me. The amount of ignorance from today's gaming communities and gamers in general is shockingly strong.
Even worse if you get into an argument with one.
They can't even make the effort to take a look on past titles and have an idea what the game is about. They just get fascinated with trailers thrown in a gratuitious manner and then they start whinin' and complainin' around

I heard that the “obsessed TTLG forum not ‘REAL' thief fan” edition was going to come with an alternative opening...
Artimus (is that the keeper's name?) or some other keeper was going to come back in time and explain how everything has now been ‘changed'... what we saw 15 years ago... the Keeper young Garrett met all those years ago was actually brutally murdered by that rubbish witch\badguy\shapeshifter character from TDS as a final revenge on Garrett\the keepers. In this universe Young Garrett actually attempted to pick the pocket of a noble and got away free. That noble would move on to be the baron, who introduced even more brutal laws against theft.
If they get Leonard Nimoy explain this in a shoehorned cameo I will forgive them a lot... bonus points if they got Stephen russel to explain it!
(okay, this started as a cheap joke - but I think dreaming up an alternative “garrett as not a keeper” timeline could be fun...)

Thanks Raven. I just did a spit-take reading that. I really needed a good laugh!

(
http://www.polygon.com/2013/8/21/4645140/thiefs-garrett-narrative-creating-garrett-stephen-gallagher-gamescom-2013) Speaking of the storyline
Quote:
"[He] kind of inspired himself as basic premise: We took his personality and [figured out] what he can't handle."
Gallagher shared more details of the "new Garrett's story," offering a deep look into the world of Eidos Montreal's Thief. The game will star
a Garrett haunted by loss and (
http://www.southquarter.com/thief/t4headshot.jpg) determined to never kill anyone unless it was necessary. Gallagher said Garrett's story begins with Erin, a young woman who has fled the servitude of a brothel and taken to the streets. Garrett, seeing her skill in pickpocketing, takes her under his wing and is determined to make her a master thief. But Erin is quick to kill and actually seems to enjoy the act, so after several years of pilfering partnership the two part ways.
Quote:
"In a way [we are] expanding on the essence of what that kind of character archetype is," Gallagher said of writing a "new" Garrett. "I think Garrett is unique. And I think a lot of people connected with the old Garrett. It's a very compelling thing to try and get you to empathize with this guy."
Quote:
"I've said this before and sometimes people misunderstand me," Gallagher said, "but there's a certain amount of the feminine in Garrett, he represents a lot of both [male and female.] The strength and elegance of the feminine, as opposed to the chest out, legs apart, 'I will save the world' [attitude]. He's not a savior by his own definition.
I mean, I knew it was going to be bad. I just didn't expect it to be THAT. BAD. :nono:

FYI, we're talking about this already over in (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=142278) THIS thread.
That is too funny about the killing though:
"I'm Garrett, I'm a professional. I don't kill unless it's completely necessary.
But if I am forced to do it, I want at least 40 XP for it."

Saw the new thread after I posted this!

"I won't kill unless it's necessary. That dude is standing some distance from me and looking my vague direction. It's necessary."

What the hell is wrong with those people?
