So I've joined House Redoran (gotta love honor, ethics and ancestor worship!) and the first quest sends me out to kill a couple of mudcrabs that are savaging a dark elf farmer's guar herd... needless to say, this is a complete waste of my ebony-clad fighting potential, but nonetheless I agree to do it, because of course I have no choice. I'm given directions to get to the farm.
After about two hours spent following the directions, retracing my steps, following them in a slightly different way, retracing my steps... ad nauseam, I opened up the editor and searched for the npc. And this isn't the first time I've been given crappy directions by a Morrowind NPC .. I guess this simulates the real world and all, but my is it annoying to search for two hours for a climactic confrontation with... two mudcrabs. *Sigh*
overall, this is my only gripe with the game, other than the fact that it's virtually impossible to successfully enchant an item by yourself.

Um..maybe you should've went there SOONER then :P
I find that all my quests are at my level or a bit too hard, which is perfect. Just wait a bit, you'll be having fun with House quests in no time, they get pretty involved fairly soon (at least the Telvanni does, heh).

In fairness, if you can even MAKE it to Ald'Ruhn, mudcrabs are not a threat... if it were a Seyda Neen or Balmora quest, it'd make more sense, no?

*is level 1*
*buys ride to Balmora*
*buys ticket to Ald'ruhn*
not that hard to get there....but you do have a point if you mean by running....I've killed more things in that little square inch on the world map than I have anywhere else in the game =P

Oh yeah... you CAN get there by silt strider.
*sigh* Can't see the forest through the trees.

NPC's do give bad directions... I was told the Town of Mallapi is NORTHEAST of Gnaar Mok. I have yet to find it.......
Myran on 21/5/2002 at 23:27
Atleast u didnt run 22 times around red mountain (the big one in the middle) because of bad NPC directions..
Damodred on 22/5/2002 at 00:03
Hehehe, I almost did that. Still looking for Nehuleft (sp?), supposedly WEST of Tel Vos. I went west. Far west. No ruin :D I'll keep looking though. I may have went too far south instead of north (or vice versa).
The map shows "something" a bit to the north, maybe that's it...It's unmarked though...
But please...WEST of Tel Vos? Pfffft. Like, do I walk an hour or two days west? Hehehe.

Guys, I don't think he's talking about getting to Ald'ruhn. I had the same problem as Damodred. In fact, I even came here to ask for directions. Some guy gave me some advice that thankfully did help me find the place that the lady was asking for.
What he means is that the first quest for House Redoran sends you off to find a farm that is nowhere near the directions the lady even indicates (which are vague at best to begin with). How sad that Redoran has yet another quest that involves finding some fellow that is just as bad.
To be honest, it's one of the few complains I have with the game. I really hate some of the directions. They should have been more clear with this. After all, it's easy to get lost in such a vast world and after a while, such exploring is not fun.

Yup, the biggest gripe I have with MW is finding places. Now, don't get me wrong, I LOVE the vastness (well, big enuff anyway) of the island, I love exploring and just running from A to B and finding shrines, ruines and tombs along the way. What I absolutely detest is spending everything from 30 to 120 minutes RL time finding a specific entrance. Especially when the area you have to cover is 1/5 of Vvardenfall.
Gimme a fookin' chopper with a GPS (nope, levitate + divine intervention doesn't count).
