More HL2 mods.
Trying the famous old mod, Water. And then maybe finish up Panopticon if the modder fixes the loading bug.

State of Mind. Cool little cyberpunk first person point & click adventure with a '90s retro style. No real gameplay except every once and a while you have to go get a widget to fade to the next scene. Sort of reminds me of Anachronox without the fighting, you can't really walk around that much, there's usually only 1 or 2 people you can interact with, but the story & the characters are interesting. I'm already an hour in and I'm still not sure what's real and what's not, but something weird is going on. So there's that central mystery there. But the story is rolling along kind of oblivious to that. And it's kind of funny. So far I really like it. It's all interactive story though.

I finished up the main campaign of Mutant Year Zero yesterday. The subtitle (Road to Eden) is kinda unfortunate since it basically spoils a major plot element due to various early encounters. While the core combat system is taken directly from the modern XCOM games, with no 95% chance = miss since accuracy is done in steps of 25% (with 100% being possible and actual 100%) everything else about the game reminds me far more of Fallout: Tactics. Each of the five characters have multiple ways of being used, and while some abilities are shared all 5 characters have reasons to be used in any encounter (once you unlock them that is). From everything I've been able to gather, all armor, weapons and mods are fixed, which means you won't be able to freely outfit your characters as you like, that does make for some interesting choices in how you distribute gear and approach encounters. On the other hand, if you go out of your way and explore every location and kill all enemies you'll be able to get all the passive team wide buffs from Pripp and almost complete each character's skill tree.
The story is servicable enough to get you from one encounter to the next, but it's probably the weakest point of the game. The timeline around the Elder, the Ark, the stalkers, the Nova Sect and certain late game revelations just doesn't make it through closer inspection. For instance Bormin is presented as the grizzled veteran who has been a stalker for a long time while Dux is presented as a newbie just starting out, they're the same age and from the same place.
As a whole the game is definitely recommendable for anyone looking for a solid squad based tactical experience. And save your EMP grenades for big threats, there isn't an unlimited supply of grenades.

I'm currently playing Steins;Gate Elite on Switch, a VN remade into an interactive anime. The first 20 hours were boring as shit, it's all just slow set-up. When the game hits Act 5 then it started getting really good, I'm glad that I slogged through those first 20 hours. Still wish that the journey getting hadn't been such a yawn.
The game tries to base itself on actual scientific theory, so you get a lot of info dumps where characters explain it to each other/the audience.
The main character starts off as an obnoxious blowhard, but all the tragedy in that results as consequences of his mucking with time matures him fast. Once he goes his arc he's likeable and sympathetic IMO.
I've gotten 3 endings so far, on my way through the Main Route.
The sequel Steins;Gate Zero is out on Steam, but I'll just wait a year or so to see if they remake it with animated video from the 2018 anime adaptation. If only because static images are far more dull than animation.

So State of Mind has a cyberpunk dance club where the player meets some interesting characters and important dialog goes down. It's so cliche I actually kind of love it. Just enough people dancing to make it look quasi- "happening" without tanking the FPS. People inexplicably waxing philosophical more like they were in a philosophy seminar than a club. The cyberpunk costuming and the music and the lighting.
It made me think about other cyberpunk bars and dance clubs are out there in gamedom. It immediately reminded me of the clubs in Deus Ex and Vampire Bloodlines. Are there others out there y'all can tell me? I'm really curious to compare them all now.

Are they philosophizing like they're drunk, though? (Or is it just me and my friends that drunkenly philosophize?)

Definitely. Also Red String Club. Here I was thinking more about 3D space where you have NPCs actually dancing around and sitting in corners having bizarre conversations.
Re: Mass Effect... I played the first maybe 3 hours of the first game. Then I started to feel like I was getting railroaded, something I think I cared more about more then than I do now. But the whole series is on my list to finish someday.

It was just funny because a game is going to skirt that line between, on the one hand, yeah they're just drunk philosophizing, but at the same time they're actually advancing the plot too, so they have to be giving real and serious information. The whole set up is kind of bizarre and funny, and it was like that for Deus Ex, Vampire Bloodlines, and this State of Mind game.
Oh yeah, I guess while it's up, it's such a trope that you can already bet Cyberpunk 2077 is going to have this kind of scene too.

I assume you've played Bernband, dema? Not much in the way of interactivity, but it's ”late night in the city”-ambiance is fantastic.

Alongside The Walking Dead S3, I've returned to Dark Souls 3, which I originally stopped playing somewhere around the High Wall of Lothric because Red Dead Redemption 2 got in the way, and I'm now remembering just how bad I am at these games. I don't know if it's that I'm clumsy or impatient or both, but it happens so often that I come out of what should be a routine fight with a third of my HPs gone. Which makes it all the more surprising that I managed to kill the Winged Knight in my second encounter (and first up-close fight) with him without taking any damage. (My first encounter saw me throwing knives at him from the balcony and accidentally dropping down because with every throw I moved forward a tiny step, so I wasn't really prepared for my fall and his attack.)
Also, I'm slowly getting to the point in Subnautica where I'm reasonably self-sufficient. I'm growing plants and now I'm planning to get one of those big containment tanks so I can get a self-replenishing supply of fish as well. Which means that I should probably consider going deeper, because I've also checked out the obvious places up to a depth of 300m. Needless to say, I'm a tad scared.
