I'll be getting a new PC soon, so I'm on the lookout for games that I can either finish quickly or that can easily be played in instalments. I'm thinking that Momodora and Hitman should tick both of those boxes.

I've had a hard time finding games recently that will keep me hooked. I went back to Tales of Maj'Eyal for a while as I always seem to love that one and it did not disappoint. Over the winter, I played Subnautica and The Long Dark and had a great time with both. Since then, I tried Deep Rock Galactic but could only keep at it for maybe a week followed by Vermintide 2 which lasted maybe a week and a half. Since then I've been having mindless fun with Chivalry Medieval Warfare which is half skill melee fest/half hilarious to me but not something I see going on for a while.
That said, I'd love to find some kind of strategy game (or any game) that I could really sink into for a month or so but everything has me a little meh these days.

Its called getting old lol. I sometimes find the same thing, games that I know are objectively good that I once would have spent hours and hours upon, now I find myself almost having to force myself to play. Although I have just recently started Vampire Bloodlines again and I find that very compelling indeed, maybe its the superior writing.

I just tried On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness 3. I liked the first two well enough to get through them. This one, eh, not so much.

The first two chapters I don't own because they haven't gone on discount for ~6+ years. Ditto for the Deathspank trilogy from the same developer.

Not too long ago I played Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor. I had owned it for quite a while and was looking forward to playing it, but it wouldn't run on my old computer, so I think it was the very first game that I played on my new computer. After hearing all sorts of positive things about the game, I started it all excited and I actually enjoyed it for a little while, but in the end it turned out to be quite a disappointment.
Basically it's Assassin's Creed: Middle Earth. And I actually really like the Assassin's Creed games, or did like them anyway, until I got all AC'd out a long time ago. Shadow of Mordor is just uglier (I guess that Mordor isn't supposed to be a pretty place, but it could have been more interesting at least) and if possible, even more repetitive than AC. I hated all the special powers that completely ruin the balance of the game. And its biggest sin is that I didn't even get any LotR vibes from it at all - it felt like just about any generic fantasy action game.
Don't get me wrong, it's not a terrible game; I still finished it and everything. However, having to play all those repetitive quests and killing all the war chiefs did become a bit of a chore in the end, and I didn't feel like touching any of the DLC after beating the main game. I guess it's just not what I expected it to be. I'm surprised that it has got pretty good reviews and people generally seem to like it. Is the sequel any better or just more of the same?

It's about the same, with added fluff. There are more orc personality types, which are entertaining for the brief moment where you aren't lovingly slicing bits of their faces off, more levelling, more grinding, more collectibles, more maps, but the core loop is about the same. If you liked the original, you'll like the sequel. If you couldn't stand how mind-numbingly repetitive it was, stay away from this one.

Most likely because people were expecting a game focused on killing tons of orcs and they got just that.

Wot I'm playing roundup:
Red Dead Redemption 2 - got back into this. On chapter 6, the story has gone and is going to some unexpected places, which I like.
Sparkle Unlimited - arcade/puzzle stuff like this and Picross is honestly what I've ended up using my Switch for the most. Anyway, this is great.
Driver: Parallel Lines - saw this on sale on GOG and felt an odd urge to play it again. This is the one that came out after Driv3r, and it overall a much more polished experience. The driving doesn't quite feel as great as I remember it, with the brake being kinda OP, but when you get into a chase from the cops it's good stuff. I still really like the wanted system in this, which has separate heat-meters for you and your car, meaning if the cops have identified your car you can just hop into another one when they're out of view and you're alright.
