UCAL Berk, has always been infested with wackos.
If by wackos you mean brilliant, genius people, then yes.

J1001, As a "real Marine" who served when the treatment in basic bootcamp and advanced training was really hard, not the candy-ass crap you children recieve now, we were taught the hard way to be Marines, and we also learned the reason "we the few, the proud" were Marines.
To protect the rights of all American Citizens. Not just those few we agreed with. Get your head out of your rectum and try at least, to be worthy of wearing that uniform and being a Marine.
You young punks piss me off no end with your ignorance.

Genius? Some few, very few may be, but until you show me
your Nobel or international recognition for such claim, I'll just consider you one of the not very well educated.
PS: Good for you Nickie. USens have made as many blunders as the rest of the world. Keep these young pups honest. :thumb:

Me not well educated? Yeah you're right. But the boys at Berkeley did put together stuff like BSD, so they got my eternal gratitude.
EDIT: Oh and without them coming up with superior TCP/IP implementation we wouldn't be having this conversation in the first place.
theBlackman on 17/2/2008 at 11:15
Gee. And all this time I thought the Stanford and MIT boys who were the first Hackers, and the establishment of the WELL in Sausalito, not by a Berkeley boy by the way, was the start of the whole thing.
Well, cover me with bat shit and call me nitrogenous waste. :D

What's your stance on people who wank off onto the flag? I mean, in some respects, thats an act of love.
Tocky on 17/2/2008 at 15:44
I find in these conversations that I'm not surprised by the lack of introspection of the jingoistic US sort (which I expect) but by the smarmy lack of it by the world. Perhaps if the US did not have Korea as a model of deliniation between inervention and non then it would have pursued a more isolationist policy and could sit back smugly pointing fingers with the rest.
I'm personally for that. Perhaps then we wouldn't get hur hur comments about countries eating thier dead when the reason they have them is because the killing fields happened when we pulled out as the left wished (and I too) and communist forces came in and purged as they intended originally. The difference is that we would not be vested in our own blood and could then boo and hiss to no effect from the stands like everyone else.
I've been here quite a while now and I can tell you that none of you folks are nearly as brilliant as you let on because the brilliant sort acknowledge both sides of a problem.
catbarf on 17/2/2008 at 16:36
Justin, are you for anarchy? That's the most free political system in the world.
Come to think of it, you must regard Iraq as a Job Well Doneā¢.

Does that mean I can save face now by acknowledging both sides of the problem?

To be fair, the USofA was very much involved and supportive of the UK, France, Russia and allies pre pearl harbour, just not with direct military action.
From my understanding, that was most because Roosevelt actually understood the stakes of what was going on in Europe, and the fact that it wouldn't stop there. The people on the other hand, didn't see it that way.

Also Germany declared war on us first.
I thought so, but I couldn't remember the exact order of events.

If there's one thing that gets right up my nose is
anyone thinking that, for any reason whatsover, they're a better person than anyone else. And governments thinking it gets up my nose even more! I doubt there's a single country that hasn't ****** up at some time or another.
