Using any useful mods? Anything you'd like to share? I imagine that more massive modifications would get their own thread later on, as they pop up, but I thought it would be useful to have this thread for the various little ones worth mentioning.
So far the only thing I've got loaded up is something called Cross Repair Weapons, that allows you to fix some weapons with similar types, rather than only off the same model. I got it quite some time ago, hoping it would allow me to repair my then-only AK (or Chinese Assault Rifle, if you wanna be pedantic) with parts from the regular US Assault Rifles. Ironically enough, that's one of the things that
weren't enabled in the version I still have running. Still, it can be a nifty addition if this you're looking for something of this sort, and a couple of new versions have popped up that would likely suit your needs. I just can't be bothered to change it right now.

Currently playing with... I can't be bothered to get the links, but all off (
http://www.fallout3nexus.com) and thus searchable:
Amputate! mod. Just means that when you loot a deathclaw hand, it actually rips a hand off the deathclaw.
FallDamage101.esp -- makes fall damage much more severe above about two stories. Hey, you're lugging around 150+kg, break a leg.
No God Mode VATS -- as described... you take damage as normal (the amount is selectable) during VATS
RI_Sleep -- no more magic health replenishmen after nary an hour's kip... you regain it gradually, as in the originals.
BetterPacingMod -- greatly decreases experience from lockpicking, traps and hacking and significantly from combat so you won't hit the level 20 cap so fast, as well as just pacing development more in tandem with quest progression
MFO -- just the radiation plugin, which makes it something you might actually be bothered to avoid. Bothered to avoid in terms of facing imminent death wandering unprotected in areas about 4 rads a second.
Locational damage -- decreases the overall HP deduction from limb damage
Also, some mod which increases the effect of crippled legs for you and yer enemies, can't remember the name.
Looking forward to some more involved mods now that the editor's been released.

I'm not sure I could recommend a VATS no damage immunity mod unless there is a way to abort the animations.

Haven't had any problems with it myself... It wasn't immunity to begin with (10% damage), and if you're out of cover that low on health there's a good chance you'd die anyway. In my view, it adds a lot of extra strategy to the system.

(
http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=1204) Fallout 3 Item Descriptions - This one is so obvious that I was planning to make something like it myself. It adds
Fallout and
Fallout 2 style item descriptions to your inventory and to the trading screens, not including "junk" items. Purely cosmetic, but it adds to the feel of the game. Shame on Bethesda for not including this in the first place.
The link above is to NMA, but you can also find it at fallout3nexus.com.

I just installed the FO3 mod mgr as well as the item desription mod and everything seemed to go fine. Started up the game, ticked off the mod, however when I get in game there is no item desription.
Anyone know how to fix this?

Yeah. The author packaged the .rar file incorrectly, so the textures end up in the wrong place. Unzip everything and put the Textures folder in the Fallout 3\Data directory.
Also remember to follow the instructions about changing the .ini file.

Actually the texures folder is in the data directory. It's the weirdest thing because when I launch the game I go to data in the splash screen and the file is there. I tick it off, but after not seeing the descriptions in-game, I go back to the spash screen and it's unticked.
So now before I even try to play, I first go and tick off the item description.esp in the data folder in the FO3 splash screen, then before I hit the play button I check the data again, and it's unticked so I know it's not going to work.
Not sure what to try now, although it's no big deal to me it's starting to bug the shit out of me.
BTW; I made sure I changed the line in the ini file and still no go.

Have you tried maybe using (
http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=640) FOMM's data files checklist? If you're lucky, the issue could turn out to be just with F3's native mod manager.
Also, I think I know what mod you're on about, but I haven't used it, so run me through this - isn't it supposed to just replace some standard images that show up in the PipBoy with custom images that also have some text on them? If that's the case, it shouldn't need an .esp, just overriding the files through the Data folder and Archive Invalidation set up.

Yes I think you're right. It does just add some custom text but I still can't get it to work. I also added some sort of UI enhancement and extracted to the data folder and for some reason that worked fine even though it doesn't show up in the data folder in the splash screen. There is a mod folder in the data folder under C/Fallout, and I tried moving the item description mod in there but it still doesn't show up in the splash screen nor work. I think I'll just give up on it.
These are actually just cosmetic changes that I don't really care about, however I'd like to replace the music in the vanilla game. I'm obviously not that familiar with how all this works so if that's going to be a big hassle I probably won't bother.
It could also be that I'm a dumbass as well and missing some ridiculous step that I missed or something.
Thanks for the help.
